Suns officially launch their 2014 campaign

2014 Rockdale City Suns

On Saturday night at the Ilinden Sports Centre, the Rockdale City Suns officially commenced their season in front of 400 players and guests.

The full house sign was up early with the Club’s Skill Acquisition Program, Youth and Senior squads coming together for their gear presentation.

Club President Dennis Loether provided an outline of the Club’s ambitions for the upcoming season and the desire to continue the momentum from last year’s showing in first grade and the under 20’s.  He also cited the ongoing improvements to the Club’s SAP and Youth programs during the off season.

The large crowd were addressed by First Grade Coach Branko Culina who provided wise words for all of the players at the Club, especially the younger brigade noting the number of young players who had made the transition into the Club’s senior squads in 2013, a trend that will be continuing in 2014.

Thereafter, returning Club Captain Askin Oygur was presented with his Captain’s armband, and the Club’s first grade squad were presented with their playing strips.

Special guest for the evening, the Honourable Nick Varvaris, Federal Member for the seat of Barton wished the Club well for 2014 in his address acknowledging the progress made at the Club both on and off the field over the past few seasons.

A special presentation was made to the Club’s new 2014 major sponsor, Lucas Homes.

In addition, presentations were made to long serving major sponsors, Ribarovski Catering and Australian Mortgage Options, as well as to the Club’s new Juniors major sponsor, Paul’s Custom Forward Solutions.

It was a fantastic evening made all the more pleasing by news filtering in that the Club had qualified for this weekend’s Preseason Cup final against Blacktown Spartans.

Rockdale City Suns would like to thank all those in attendance, including our community media representatives, and we wish all players and officials well for the 2014 season.
