Two early goals in each half sent the Bonnyrigg White Eagles on course for a comfortable 3-1 victory against Parramatta FC in a rescheduled round 8 match at cold Bonnyrigg Sports Ground on Wednesday evening.

The White Eagles faithful thought they had the lead in the 7th minute after a teasing Tynan Diaz ball was met by Robbie Younis. However it was Patrick Gatt to the rescue as Parramatta’s skipper back tracked well to knock the ball out for a corner off the line.

From the ensuing corner the White Eagles had the lead.

A howler by Parramatta goalkeeper Luke Turnbull saw him slap a Chris Tadrosse  in swinging corner into his own net.

Minutes later and Younis was causing problems again.

The big number 9 showed his technical ability on the edge of the area, making space to shoot but his goal-bound effort was again blocked by Gatt.

A Blade Richards cross come shot almost caught James Chronopoulos off guard but the White Eagles shot stopper did well to tip the ball over the bar.

With three minutes to go in the first half, Younis looked to set up Diaz. The White Eagles winger hit a curling shot that beat Turnbull but flew just over the bar.

In the 54th minute the White Eagles doubled their lead. Diaz again played in a great ball for Mun So Gil who let fly toward goal. The shot took a wicked deflection that had Turnbull going the wrong way as the ball hit the back of the net.

Only three minutes later and the White Eagles goalscorer almost went from hero to zero. Gil was caught in possession in the centre of the park by Juan Chavez who burst through one on one with Chronopoulos. Chavez couldn’t hit the target against his former club as his shot went agonizingly wide.

It was 3-0 in the 67th minute as a weaving run by Raymond Miller saw him play through Adam Jenner who scored his second goal in two games, placing the ball past Turnbull.

In the first minute of stoppage time, substitute Luke Grima made it 3-1 with a sublime finish in the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the area, a consolation as the referee soon blew full time.

It seemed that even the cold conditions had gotten to the White Eagles coach Brian Brown who is no stranger to this weather as the Scotsman stated to Football NSW.

“It’s a cold night and I think most people would’ve wanted to be inside, for a little while I thought our players thought they should be inside also.”

Brown was happy with his side picking up the win but commended tonight’s opponents also.

“Credit to Parramatta they worked hard and made it hard for us but I’m very pleased with a 3-1 victory.”

One disappointing factor for the home team was conceding a late goal, and Brown wasn’t too pleased with it.

“It was a goal we didn’t need to lose, we’d been quite comfortable at 3-0 and just keeping the ball was what we needed to do.”

The White Eagles travel to Lambert Park to take on the APIA Leichhardt Tigers on Saturday night and ‘Bomber’ believes if his side play as well as they can the results will come.

“Every game’s a big game at the moment and we need to keep focused on performing and doing what we do well and doing the little things right because then the big things will come.”

A disappointed Franco Consentino wasn’t pleased with the result at Bonnyrigg Sports Ground.

“Credit to Bonnyrigg, they deserved the win and were too good on the night.

“We played good in patches but it’s just not good enough really.

“We conceded a goal in the 8th minute of the first half and the 9th minute of the second half and you can’t do that against a side like Bonnyrigg.”

Luke Grima is slowly coming back from injury and the substitute made an impact, picking up the away side’s consolation goal.

“Positive signs that he’s come back from injury and for him to score is good for us.
