ROCKDALE City Suns have taken all three points from Bonnyrigg Sports Centre with a convincing 3-0 win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
The first half featured many chances, mainly for Rockdale, although Bonnyrigg were the first to threaten.
After only eight minutes, a cross came in from the White Eagles right flank which found the outstretched boot of Ray Miller, who initially beat Bonnyrigg keeper David Bradasevic.
The Rockdale number 1 however, was able to recover the ball before it crossed the line and the score line remained 0-0.
This chance was followed by relentless Rockdale attack at the other side of the half way line.
The Suns first chance came in the form of a ball was crossed in from the right by Toufic Alameddine who found Alec Urosevski. One on one with Bonnyrigg keeper Janes Chronopolous, Urosevski was not able to get his shot away in time and the keeper was able to smother the ball.
Rockdale’s second opportunity came through an attack inside the White Eagles half and when Marko Jesic found the ball and took a shot from just outside the box, it was looking as if it would propel into the back of the net. Only a cracking fingertip save from Chronopolous denied the Suns.
Moments later Chronopolous was in the action again as a corner kick from Rockdale found veteran Paul Reid outside the penalty area. Reid sweetly timed his strike but a fingertip touch again from the Bonnyrigg custodian kept the Suns out.
It was third time lucky for the Suns on 34 minutes though, as another chance presented itself, and this time Rockdale capitalised. The ball again was crossed from Rockdale’s right hand side by Alameddine and it found Idriss El Hafiane who was able to finally beat Chronopolous to score and put the visitors in front.
Rockdale came out of the sheds on fire and doubled their advantage through a goal from Urosevski just minutes after the second half stated. The striker found a loose ball that came in from a corner and with an open goal mouth the number 7 was able to find the back of the net.
To rub salt into Bonnyrigg’s wounds Urosevski netted his second in injury time after he found himself with time and space.
After the game, Rockdale Player/Coach Paul Reid expressed his joy at taking the three points.
“It was a really good performance from the boys tonight, we won 3- nil but it could have been a few more," he said.
“We’re delighted with the three points, but also delighted in the way in which we played tonight."
Meanwhile a dejected Bonnyrigg coach Brian Brown said Rockdale were deserved winners.
“It wasn’t one of our best (performances) tonight, after the first 15 minutes I thought they dominated us," he said.
“They worked really hard and deserved what they got.
“At the moment we have a lot of injuries with a pretty small squad so we have to find who is available and work with it.”
