Team of the Week – Round 1 – PS4 NPL NSW Men’s
After every round of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Men’s season Team of the Week brings to focus the best players from that weekend.
A long-range effort from new Parramatta signing Ante Tomic was one of the highlights in a frantic 3-2 win over Spartans to open the season. He was in the thick of the action at almost each of Parramatta’s attacks earning him a Man of the Match performance on the evening.
Blacktown City young gun Danny Seung-Joo Choi was a constant threat in attack, with his corners giving headaches to the Sydney United 58 FC defence. With his technical prowess in full effect, Choi will once again be one to watch out for in 2016.
The hero of Blacktown’s 2015 National PlayStation NPL Grand Final triumph Joey Gibbs picked up where he left off, scoring a well-deserved goal in the 3-2 victory.
Meanwhile Sharks goalkeeper Nathan Denham was instrumental in ensuring his side kept the only clean sheet of the round, while bustling defender Nick Littler marshalled his side well in defence as well as scoring a sublime header sealing the game over Manly
Former Wanderers Youth League mid-fielder Sean Symons was in everything for APIA and was a contender for man-of-the-match. However that honour went to Olympic’s Harris Gaitatzis whose first half bomb from long range caught the attention of the fans who were present at Lambert Park. Former Sydney FC National Youth League and Sydney United 58 FC player Anthony Tomelic also shone in the encounter, shutting down chances and providing options in attack.
Goal machine veteran Robbie Younis was at it again for Bonnyrigg in their 2-2 draw with Rockdale, nailing two penalty kicks. He was unlucky not to have a hat trick, peppering the goalkeeper throughout the match.
However it was his former teammate Alex Canak who picked up the man-of-the-match gong for his excellent attacking football that kept Rockdale in the contest. After scoring a goal in the opening exchanges, Canak showed his class with a perfectly weighted cross that was finished at the back post.
The final match of the round saw Wollongong get off to a flying start, thanks to a screamer from captain Chris Price in the first minute.
