After every round of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Men’s season Team of the Week brings to focus the best players from that weekend.
It was a goal fest at Blacktown Football Park, with a brace from striker Alec Urosevski powering Rockdale City Suns to a 4-2 win over the Blacktown Spartans. Proving to be a constant headache for the defence, Urosevski dealt a blow to the Spartans’ hopes of an elusive home ground victory when he netted Rockdale’s fourth goal with a great finish. Toufic Alameddine also shone on Saturday night, his blistering runs down the wing allowing the Suns strikers to pepper the Spartans keeper. The midfielder scored a deserved goal right on half time to cap off a great night for the Suns.
Some fine work from two of their star defenders was the key for Manly in a 3-1 win over Hakoah Sydney City East. The dynamic duo of Travis Oughtred and Jamie Lobb controlled Manly’s backline superbly, making it difficult for Hakoah to get a shot away. Oughtred was just as clinical in attack, netting just after half time to double Manly’s lead and ultimately condemn Hakoah to another defeat that leaves them stranded at the bottom of the ladder.
Blacktown City continued their unbeaten run this season, despite some man-of-the-match heroics from Bonnyrigg goalkeeper James Chronopoulous. For 90 minutes, City sent through wave after wave of attack but could only watch as Chronopoulous pulled off some spectacular saves. Former Leeds and Wigan youth striker Patrick Antemli was the saviour for City, scoring two goals from close range in the dying minutes to break the White Eagle’s hearts with a 2-1 win.
A dynamic performance from Panni Nikas lifted Sydney United 58 to a 3-0 win over Sydney Olympic. As a former North Queensland Fury and Central Coast player, Nikas showed his class with some silky runs and scoring a brace in the second half. Midfielder Nicholas Stavroulakis had a strong game as well, starving the Olympic players of possession with some smart touches. Olympic were goal-less largely thanks to the continuing good form of United 58’s Yianni Fragogiannis, who again proved to be the rock of the defensive line.
Wollongong secured their second win of the season after surviving a relentless assault from APIA’s Tasuka Sekiya. The Japanese import was on fire in the opening 20 minutes, constantly working his way to within goal range but failing to deliver the final touch. Heading into the second half with a slender one-goal lead, Wollongong’s defence stepped up to hold APIA at bay, with young centre-back Zac Mackenzie showing coolness under pressure to shut down APIA’s attack and guide his side to a 1-0 win.
