These days for a player to stay at one club and play 200 games is somewhat unusual, but this week Carlos Saliadarre will reach that milestone when we celebrate his 200th game for Blacktown Spartans FC when they take on our neighbours Blacktown City FC at Blacktown Football Park in the PlayStation 4 National Premier League Men’s 1 competition.
During his time with the Club Carlos has only played in one position and that as Goalkeeper and captain, only missing on three occasions in nets, most recently when he was called up by Western Sydney Wanderers as back up keeper. Carlos made his debut for Spartans in 2009 when we played in the then Division 1 State League competition, a year later Carlos would captain the side to finish the season as runners up and gaining promotion into Super League.
After a remarkable season in 2010, Carlos went on to captain the same side to take out the double in 2011 Premiers and Champions in Super League leading the way for promotion into Premier league.
Carlos has been one of those players that has been a true Club person during his time with us says Club Chairman Dane Sim, when he first came to us at Francis Park as a 19-year-old, this young boy who would train and give his all in each game was a joy to watch, and whilst he took a pounding some days and might have taken a while to get back up, he never gave up and this still continues the same today.
Spartans Head Coach Ben de Haan who has coached Carlos for his entire time at the Club praised his keeper’s milestone achievement.
“Carlos has always had a professional approach to training and game day, he has shown a great commitment to the Club and been a pleasure to have as captain.”
Now with a family of his own who have become part of the club’s wider family, Carlos Saliadarre is an inspiration to younger players who strap on a boot (and glove), whilst the joys of the last few seasons haven’t been there, Carlos still gives the same commitment to the Club as he did as that 19 year old in 2009.
On behalf of the entire Spartans and Blacktown District family we congratulate Carlos on the achievement of 200 games with the Club.
