White Eagles spanked by ruthless Suns
Bonnyrigg White Eagles’ woes continued as Rockdale City Suns extended their unbeaten run romping home to a 5-0 victory on Saturday night at Bonnyrigg Sports Club.
Rockdale City Suns started positively from the first whistle and opened the scoring early in the match.
In the 8th minute returning Bonnyrigg White Eagles keeper James Chronopolous couldn’t manage to claim a loose ball, leading to the ball being played back into the centre to an unmarked Urosevski who slotted the ball into an open net for his fifth goal of the season.
It was fantastic to see Chronopoulos on the pitch however after the star keeper was sidelined for a number of months due to a serious knee injury during last year’s finals series that required a total knee reconstruction.
Minutes later in the 13th minute, Rockdale came close again, as Toufic Allamedine found Jordan Figon in the box but his strike sailed just wide.
The home side had a good opportunity in the 26th minute with smart passing, opening up space for Hassan Jalloh on the edge of the area, however his strike was sailed over the crossbar.
Despite good spells of possession, Bonnyrigg struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in the first half.
The visitors came out firing after the halftime break scoring three goals in quick succession.
Just two minutes into the second half, sloppy Bonnyrigg defending lead to Urosevski netting his second goal of the night – Chronopolous couldn’t keep it out despite getting a hand on his shot.
In the 49th minute, quick passing play from Rockdale City Suns freed up Figon on the edge of the box who was clinical in putting it away in the top corner to make it 3-0.
Allemadine added his name to the scoresheet in the 50th minute firing a powerful strike which found its way in at the near post.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles had one of their best chances of the match in the 56th minute, after a cross from the right wing picked out club captain Raymond Miller right in front of goal, however his shot sailed wildly over the goal.
Miller had another chance in the 60th minute finding space on the edge of the box, however once again, he failed to convert.
Rockdale’s hold of the game seemed to grow increasingly firmer, as they moved the ball intelligently and were more patient in possession.
Bonnyrigg tried their luck from distance on numerous occasions, however nothing troubled Suns shotstopper Ante Covic.
Paul Reid’s men put the icing on the cake in the 91st minute, making it 5-0 as Figon grabbed his brace executing a clinical finish from inside the box – it was the burly striker’s seventh of the season.
Young Bonnyrigg White Eagles striker Asmir Kadri? described his side’s performance as sloppy and lacking passion.
“5-0 says it all really.”
Speaking after the match, Paul Reid was satisfied with his side’s dominant performance.
“Obviously, they’re bottom of the table but they’re always tough games.
“We thought we’d come here and put them under pressure. They’re lacking confidence and we got an early goal which is what we wanted.
“It was a really good second half performance.
We stuck to the plan in the second half and it was a convincing win in the end.”
