Biczo buzzing for Sunday
Sunday’s PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition decider will be a milestone day for APIA Leichhardt Tiger’s winger Corey Bizco and he is determined to make it one to remember.
The 24 year old will play in his maiden senior grand final and hopes to replicate the form which has made him a key attacking weapon for the Tigers.
The skilled dribbler says hard work and determination has helped him transform from one-trick pony to a well rounder player.
“I feel like my game has really come a long way this season and I’ve matured as a player,” he said.
“I’ve been known for my ability on the ball and my dribbling, but Danial (Cummins, APIA coach) really stressed the importance of defence and finding more balance to how I play.
“While I haven’t scored as many goals as I would’ve liked this season, I still think I have contributed really well going forward and hopefully I can again on Sunday against Manly United.“
While Cummins may have nurtured Bizco’s defence abilities, the winger’s speed and fast footwork are sure to create plenty of headaches for the Manly defence.
“Danial has given my a licence to trust my instincts and take on my marker inside the final third of the field,“ he said.
“As a winger it is always a real buzz to take players on and to get the extra encouragement to do that from the coach helps me play freely.”
When APIA broke a 30 year Premiership drought at the end of the regular season the triumph had an extra special meaning for Bizco.
“it was the first major title I had ever won in senior football,” he said.
“I went very close to winning the premiership in 2014 when I was at Blacktown Spartans so it was good to experience success at this level.
“Hopefully we can make it two trophies for the year on Sunday.”
Bizco said he can’t wait to take the field this weekend in a match he believes will go down to the wire.
“Manly are a very good team and they have don very well to make it to the grand final,” he said.
“It has been a great week of training so far and everyone at APIA is really driven to bring home the championship.
“I think as long as we stay composed and continue to work hard we will have what it takes to win.”
