Bradie Smith made the move to the Bonnyrigg White Eagles in the off season in search of first grade minutes in NSW’s top tier competition.

Brian Brown and his staff believed in the 20-year old’s abilities and gave him an opportunity at Bonnyrigg Sports Ground.

Smith hasn’t disappointed, being a shinning light in what has so far been a difficult campaign for the White Eagles.

The young right-back made his debut in Bonnyrigg colours as a second half substitute in a 4-0 league loss against Blacktown City in round three.

“It wasn’t an ideal time debut as we were down 3-0 at half time.

“But it also meant that I’d be entering the game with less pressure on my shoulders.”

Since that game, Bradie Smith has found himself in the starting line-up in every match, playing every minute in ‘Bomber’s’ team.

The attacking right back already has four assists to his name, possessing a lethal right foot.

Smith spent most of his youth at Bonnyrigg’s rivals Sydney United 58 before a stint in the United Kingdom with Ossett Town AFC.

He then returned to the NPL NSW Men’s competition with the Rockdale City Suns.

His footballing path wasn’t all plain sailing, suffering two serious injuries at 17 and 18.

“When I was 17, I was playing 20’s with Sydney United 58 and backing up on the bench for first grade before I needed an ankle arthroscope.

“After returning from the UK, I did my MCL in my first game back in Australia and that meant I couldn’t return back overseas.”

Back to the present, Smith and his team mates have made a vast improvement in their performances and are slowly moving up the ladder.

“We’ve been somewhat inconsistent so far this season but the last two games have breathed a new life into the team.

“There’s an evident buzz now in the change rooms and the belief is back with the boys.”

Ahead of this week’s blockbuster clash against Marconi Stallions, Smith and his team mates know what this means for the club.

“It’s a big game for the club, the boys are well aware of its importance, we will sure be up for it.

“Every game in this league is tough, just look at the ladder, but if we’re at our best we can beat anyone.”
