Olympic ready for Campbelltown City challenge
Sydney Olympic and Campbelltown City are one step away from the National Premier Leagues 2018 Grand Final.
The NPL champions from New South Wales and South Australia respectively will face off on Saturday at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre, SA with kick off at 3.30pm (AEST).
They’ll be fighting it out to face NPL Queensland double-winners Lions FC, who defeated reigning champions Heidelberg on penalties on Tuesday night.
Campbelltown City arrive into the Semi Final in style after defeating Canberra FC 3-0 last Saturday.
The Adelaide-based side took the initiate against their ACT opposition when a first-half goal from Alex Mullen gave the Red Devils the advantage at the break.
The hosts battled hard to find a way back into the game but Lui Ditroia’s 78th-minute finish gave Campbelltown a cushion, before Ditroai doubled his tally in stoppage time to wrap up a convincing three-goal win.
Meanwhile, Sydney Olympic edged Perth SC 1-0 in a tight affair at Lambert Park to book their Semi Final appearance.
Jason Madonis’ sixth-minute penalty proved to be the winner for Abbas Saad’s side, who preserved their goal advantage despite several chances from the Western Australia side.
Having added both the premiership and championship to their trophy cabinet this season, the Blues enter the match in sensational nick and will be hoping the likes of star Spanish recruit Alex Sanchez can fire the side into the big dance.
The winner of the NPL 2018 Finals Series will receive automatic entry into the FFA Cup 2019 Final Rounds, providing an added incentive for the two clubs.
Every match in the NPL 2018 Finals Series will be streamed LIVE on www.nationalpremierleagues.com.au as well as via the official Hyundai A-League Facebook page www.facebook.com/aleague
