A dinner attended by former German international Karl Heinz Riedle has culminated with an historic announcement at Club Marconi last night.

Eight times Bundesliga Champion Borussia Dortmund has announced a joint partnership with Club Marconi, who play in the Australian National Premier League.

Club Marconi are the fifth team that the Black and Yellows had partnered alongside current teams from China, Singapore, Thailand and previously from Malaysia.

Borussia Dortmund’s Chief Operating Officer, Carsten Cramer, said “This is a milestone and marks a new chapter in the growth of our international story and most importantly into the history books of our club to have a partnership in Australia. We are pleased and are delighted to welcome Club Marconi into our black and yellow BVB family”.

“We believe there’s a lot of footballing talent brewing in Australia and we are making a sustainable commitment to working with Club Marconi in using all our technical experiences and know-how and also cultivating a presence within the community”, echoed Suresh Letchmanan, BVB Asia Pacific’s Managing Director.

Club Marconi Football Chairman, Robert Carniato, is delighted with the partnership which is a first for one of Australia’s most respected football clubs.

“Borussia Dortmund is the perfect fit with our club philosophy. They are a club that develop their own players, they focus very much on producing their own, that fits perfectly with what we are doing at Club Marconi.”

“Like Borussia Dortmund, our purpose is to provide a career path for our young players, this partnership will enable us to offer that internationally.”

“Our coaches will benefit greatly, learning from Borussia Dortmund this can only benefit our players in the future as the knowledge is passed down.”

“Our emphasis at Club Marconi is community involvement, this partnership will only expand our presence.”

The three day visit by the Borussia Dortmund delegation included monitoring Marconi Stallions FC Youth League teams playing and concluded with a coaching clinic conducted by Karl Riedle involving the Club’s SAP players (boys and girls).

It is anticipated that the first coaching clinic to be conducted by Borussia Dortmund at Club Marconi will be in the July school holidays.
