The Marconi Stallions are ready to fight for a spot in the FFA Cup Quarter Finals after drawing a glamour fixture with A-League heavyweights Melbourne City in the competition’s Round of 16.

Peter Tsekenis’ outfit have built up some considerable league form in recent weeks and have already tasted silverware in this season’s TAFE Waratah Cup.

They were the sole NPL NSW outfit to enjoy an inter-state away trip in the FFA Cup Round of 32, where they comfortably accounted for South Hobart FC 3-0 at Blundstone Arena.

The Stallions have now drawn a tasty fixture at home to Melbourne City, where they will assume the role of the underdogs in pursuit of a Quarter Final berth.

Their inspirational skipper Marko Jesic is relishing the challenge of locking horns with the club who finished 5th in the A-League last campaign.

“It’s a big game that we’re really looking forward to,” the striker said.

“Having one of the biggest A-League clubs come to Marconi and play against us doesn’t happen every day.

“We’re always confident going into a game.

“The magic of the cup means you never know what is going to happen.

“There’s been a few upsets already in the first round so hopefully we can repeat that in the second.”

The likes of stars such as keeper Dean Bouzanis, Western Sydney born and bred Scott Jamieson, Rostyn Griffiths and Socceroos striker Jamie McLaren are all expected to line-up against the Stallions who won’t be holding back in hoping to create a ‘Cup-set’.
