Araujo in good spirits after nasty injury

Rockdale Illinden’s lynchpin midfielder Daniel Araujo is recovering well from reports after the 25-year-old sustained a horrific elbow injury in the club’s 1-0 victory over Sydney Olympic on Sunday at the Illinden Sports Centre.

The unfortunate incident happened in the 13th minute as Japanese defender Banri Kanaizumi took a routine throw-in which Araujo received, as the midfielder went to play the ball, his foot stumbled over it which then saw him tumble to the ground following awkardly, dislocating his elbow.

The game was halted for forty plus minutes whereby the talented midfielder was treated by the paramedics.

Rockdale Illinden President Dennis Loether stated to Football NSW that Araujo was in good spirits after he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was heavily sedated with the prognosis hoping to be a minor fracture to the elbow.

“Raj is as tough as they come.

“He suffered an ugly injury but we as a club are pleased to hear that the injury may not be as bad as first thought by the paramedics who treated him.

“The whole Rockdale family wish him a speedy recovery.

“Raj sent me a text this morning and wanted to thank the ambulance staff as well as our staff for helping him out.

“I also want to thank all of our support crew who were on hand to care for him.”

Football NSW would also like to wish Daniel a speedy recovery.
