Football NSW Update: Rockdale Ilinden v Sydney United 58
Further to the recent communication relating to the match between Rockdale Ilinden FC v Sydney United 58 FC on Sunday, 25 April 2021 at Rockdale Ilinden Sports Ground, Football NSW is today providing an update following on from the match.
- There have been several arrests made by Police and charges laid. The bail conditions of those charged include a prohibition on attending NPL matches.
- The external, independent investigation into the incidents is ongoing.
- Both Clubs have had home matches without spectators and away matches without their spectators in attendance.
- Both Clubs have supported Police, Football NSW and the independent investigator with their investigations and have complied with the interim measures that were put in place prohibiting spectators at their home and away matches.
In consideration of the above, from Round 12, the following interim measures will apply:
- Home matches of Rockdale Ilinden FC and Sydney United 58 FC will take place with home and away spectators but subject to having appropriate security plans in place; and
- Away matches of Rockdale City FC and Sydney United 58 FC will take place with limited, pre-approved away spectators.
The above measures will remain in place until further notice (but not beyond when the investigation into the incidents is concluded and any subsequent disciplinary proceedings are determined).
These measures apply to NPL NSW Men’s 1st Grade and U20’s, and FFA Cup matches.
Football NSW want to again take this opportunity to remind all Clubs of the importance of providing a safe environment for spectators, players and officials and that Football NSW has a zero-tolerance policy towards violent behaviour.
Football NSW’s Competitions Department will work directly with all Clubs affected by these measures.
More updates will be provided in due course as the on-gong investigation continues.
