APIA Leichhardt have appointed Danial Cummins as the club’s First Grade Head Coach with the 44-year-old’s first objective, steering the club to a hopeful round of 32 FFA Cup win over the Tigers FC next Wednesday evening in the Nation’s Capital.

The former APIA player and coach joins the iconic Inner West National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s club having taken time out of the game due to work commitments.

His appointment has come after the club parted ways with Paul Dee in June this year.

Cummins coached the APIA side during the 2017 NPL NSW Men’s season, a year which saw the team clinch the coveted Premiership but fall short of the triple losing out in the Grand Final to Manly United as well as falling at the last hurdle in the Waratah Cup Final to Hakoah FC.

“I’m excited to be back and cannot wait for the challenges that lie ahead,” Cummins stated to Football NSW.

“I am really enjoying being back on the park as well as being back in the dressing sheds, it was something I honestly missed.

“I am delighted in being able to help assist the club once more as well as looking towards the next generation of footballers.

“I am under no illusion that it will be a difficult 2022 season with personnel changes as well as rival NPL NSW clubs have recruited very well, but we will be there giving it our all.

“Our main focus though is the FFA Cup round of 32 match against Tigers FC.”

Viking Park will be the venue as Cummins and co will take on the ACT’s best in Tigers FC, a match which the new boss knows won’t be an easy task.

“We are all really looking forward to this big clash.

“Everyone’s in the same bucket with regards to match fitness due to lockdowns etc and we are under no illusion that this will be an extremely tough match.

“The boys have worked very hard though and I know will give it their all in winning this match at all costs.

“We are expecting a true Cup tie against the Tigers with the winner progressing to the Round of 16 where the winner will host the Western Sydney Wanderers which would be enormous for either club.”
