McDonald Ready to Compete at Marconi
After four years at the Wollongong Wolves, former NSW capped defender Taylor McDonald has made the move to Marconi Stallions for the upcoming National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season.
Having won the 2019 NPL NSW Men’s Premiership and NPL Championship with the Wolves, McDonald is ready for a new chapter with the Stallions and is excited to be part of the team, praising the quality of the squad and the culture within the team.
“I guess, ultimately it’s a new chapter really,” he explained.
“It’s a new challenge, it’s a new change room, good bunch of boys, good coaches involved – they’re very professional.
“I guess I’m more than eager just to get back into it considering we’ve been away from it for so long…being amongst fresh faces and a good group of boys I’m super excited and ready for it.
“They’re great footballers but above all, they’re just good people.
“They were very welcoming coming into the team and I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of boys to share a change room with.”
With some fresh talent to bolster the Marconi squad, McDonald explained that the team has goals to win big in 2022.
“We want to win anything and everything in our sight,” he said.
“That goes from the Cup games, to the premiership to finals and whatever ultimately comes in our direction.”
McDonald isn’t the only Wolves player to make the move this season, with 2019 NPL NSW Men’s Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner Thomas James also making the move to the Western Sydney outfit.
“TJ is one of my best mates so bringing him across has definitely been a huge advantage,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with him again and seeing him back at his best.”
Having recently married his partner Stephanie in a lavish celebration, Taylor is feeling ready to start the season after an amazing wedding day and relaxing honeymoon.
“It was the best day of my life,” he said.
“It’s definitely been a lot of preparation and a lot of organisation but I wanted to have it done before the season started so we can hit the ground running when Round 1 comes around.”
