Wolves prove too strong for Bulls

Wollongong Wolves had a stroll in the Saturday sun in a 4-0 success against Northbridge Bulls FC at Sydney United Sports Centre.

The Wolves rebounded from their loss last weekend with a comfortable win where they dominated the contest.

Goals from Lachlan Scott and Josh Macdonald in the first half started the Wolves off well before Scott completed his brace from the spot to take them to three, then Peter Simonoski completed the rout with a wonderful, curled effort.

For the Northbridge Bulls, it was a heavy defeat and although they challenged in the first half, the youngsters were unable to find a way through Wollongong’s defence.

The result leaves them stuck to the bottom of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s ladder.

In an early kick-off, both sides were firing from the opening whistle as both teams were eager to get in the winner’s column after losses in the first weekend of the competition.

Livewire attacker Leroy Jennings went close for Wolves in the 17th minute as he strode confidently into the area and fired a shot which grazed the bar and keeper then went over.

If that first Wolves chance was a warning, then Lachlan Scott raised the alarm for the Northbridge Bulls defense.

The former Wanderers striker unfurled a fierce strike which flew into the top corner making it 1-0 for the Wolves.

Quickly it was double delight for Wolves as some wonderful combination play on the left from Scott and Jennings created a delightful cross for Josh Macdonald to lash home making it 2-0 to the visitors just after half an hour.

After two goals Wollongong Wolves were in full flow as they surged forward.

Peter Simonoski got into the action with some good hold-up play before he cushioned a pass to Jennings who tested Northbridge Bulls FC keeper Levi Kaye.

Coming out of the break, the Wolves continued to pepper the Bulls custodian Kaye – with Jennings again creating a chance that was pushed away by Kaye.

The Wolves added a third goal from the spot in the 55th minute as Scott converted a penalty kick after Simonoski was charging down the left touchline before he was clipped in the box.

Scott stepped up for the spot kick and put it in the bottom right corner for 3-0.

Keeping the goals in bunches throughout the match, Wollongong added a fourth just two minutes later.

It was the pick of the bunch from Simonoski as he found some space just outside the box before he curled it into the top corner for 4-0.

After the hour mark, Wolves made a tactical triple sub but it didn’t dampen their effort as they continued to have chances.

Jennings again was denied at the near post then Nav Darjani had an effort well saved.

It was another substitute in Nicholas Duarte who was next to test Kaye as he found some room before he unleashed a shot that was well saved by the custodian.

Nick Littler also arrowed wide as the Wolves howled after the full-time whistle with three big points.
