Killer Kucharski on the loose
With three goals in the opening three matches of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition, Sydney FC’s promising young gun Jaiden Kucharski has been a player that has caught the attention of many pundits in what’s been a fantastic 2022 season thus far for the 19-year-old.
Currently leading the Golden Boot charts, Kucharski has been happy with his start to the NPL NSW Men’s season but understands there’s a long road ahead of him before even thinking of any personal accolades.
“I’m feeling great so far, body’s feeling at its peak and the team is playing really well giving me a lot of opportunities in front of goal for me to score,” Kucharski stated to Football NSW.
“I’m definitely happy to be top goal scorer of the NPL NSW Men’s competition but it’s only been 3 matches so there is still a long way to go.”
The former Australian Under 17 international spent a gruelling off-season perfecting his body following an injury riddled 2021 season.
“During the off-season, I was focusing on getting my body fit for the upcoming year.
“I suffered a big injury last year that put me out of action for 3 quarters of the season, so just making sure my body was up to standards for the competition and that I have an injury free season were my primary objectives.
“As well as staying fit, I was also focusing on being in the right places to score in and around the box.”
Jimmy Van Weeren’s young troops have battled well thus far claiming two victories and a draw so far, the question was asked, could this be the first season the Sky Blues were to challenge for silverware and play finals football in NSW’s top tier Men’s competition?
“Of course, we are the young boys in the competition, but we are striving to win as many matches as we possibly can.
“We are competing in the NPL NSW Men’s competition, not the Boys competition so we have really stepped it up and changed the way we see our games.
“The other teams in the league are just opposition, we don’t see ourselves any different to them.
“We are here to win and definitely aiming to be in our first finals series – we have started off the season heading in the right direction, which we will continue.”
Kucharski’s next target is Manly United whom they face this Sunday at the Ilinden Sports Centre, which will wrap up round 4 of the NPL NSW Men’s competition.
“It’s going to be a tough game against Manly United as it always is.
“We beat them in preseason but that doesn’t mean anything because they are going to come out firing and so will we.
“They aren’t going to be push overs and we are going to have to expect them to come to win coming off two losses.
“But for us, coming off an unfortunate draw last week, we are going into Sunday’s match to take all 3 points and get back to winning ways and staying at the top of the table.”
There’s no doubt Sydney FC’s head coach Steve Corica and assistant Robbie Stanton have noticed the attention of Kucharski, and with more devastating displays and goals, it’ll only be a matter of time before we see this young gun given more opportunities with the senior A-League squad.
“I’ve spent a few seasons here and there training with the senior team which has upped my confidence levels as a player.
“I’ve been putting in the work so anything can happen, only time will tell, but at the moment my main focus is continuing to play well for my team, continuing to score goals and looking to win game after game.”
