NPL Men's Round Review 10

Let’s check out the mini reviews from Round 10 of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers 1 v Sydney Olympic FC 1 at Popondetta Park – Full Report and Highlights

The Easter long weekend kicked off in style on Thursday as the Mt Druitt Town Rangers played out an entertaining 1-1 all draw against Sydney Olympic at Popondetta Park in a match that saw a ‘Goal of the Year’ contender thanks to a stunning overhead kick via Rangers star Anthony Frangie.

The hosts put together one of their best footballing displays of the 2023 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season and kept the Sydney Olympic attack at bay for the majority of the match.

The Rangers opened the scoring through a jaw dropping bicycle kick from Frangie but didn’t much to the dismay of the home fans, did not carry that momentum into the second half.

For Sydney Olympic, Labinot Haliti’s side had to dig deep to take the point. The visitors struck right after half-time through Sam Mcillhatton which earned them a share of the spoils.

APIA Leichhardt FC 3 v Manly United 1 at Lambert Park – Full Report and Highlights

APIA Leichhardt have defeated Manly United 3-1 with a good display at Lambert Park to remain the only unbeaten side in the competition.

The home side began in the best way possible, finding the back of the net through Rory Jordan after a good ball from Jack Armson into the box, after a strong burst from Jack Stewart on the right flank.

APIA doubled their lead off a corner in the 51st minute, with the centre-backs combining as Joshua Symons finished off a header from Themba Muata-Marlow from Armson’s corner.

Manly United came back into the game thanks to a spectacular Matthew Sim goal, but a late strike from Alex Denmead secured the three points for APIA.

NWS Spirit FC 0 v Marconi Stallions 2 at Christie Park – Full Report and Highlights

There were no famous late comebacks at Christie Park as the Marconi Stallions defeated the NWS Spirit FC 2-0 in their Good Friday clash.

Coming off big wins last week against Wollongong (5-4) and Western Sydney (4-0), both teams came into the match hoping to build on their momentum.

Kyle Cimenti opened the scoring in the 31st minute after a mistake by defender Musashi Kokubo due to the Stallions high pressure game plan.

Pulling off save after save, Christopher Marques looked unbeatable until a brilliant team goal finished by Cimenti got Marconi their second in the 56th minute.

From then on, goalkeepers Jack Gibson and Christophe Marques would trade brilliant saves until the final whistle.

Sydney FC 2 v Wollongong Wolves 1 at Valentine Sports Park – Full Report and Highlights

An injury time Clayton Taylor penalty has given Sydney FC a 2-1 victory over the Wollongong Wolves, giving David Carney and his men more late heartache in what was an entertaining encounter played in wild conditions at times at Valentine Sports Park on Good Friday.

Alen Harbas found the net again for the hosts soon after the second half resumption before Taylor gave the Sky Blues the win in injury time. This after a Lachlan Scott goal levelled things with less than 15 minutes left.

Sydney United 58 1 v Blacktown City 0 at Sydney United Sports Centre – Full Report and Highlights

Blacktown City’s inconsistent 2023 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season continued as the 2022 Premiers were dealt a hammer blow with a smash and grab 1-0 win at the hands of Sydney United 58 with Patrick Antelmi the hero for the hosts on what was a blockbuster Easter Saturday clash.

It was a hard fought and hard won three points in an eagerly contested fixture but left the visitors wondering how they hadn’t managed to get anything from the match.

St George City 1 v Central Coast Mariners 1 at Penshurst Park – Full Report and Highlights

Easter Saturday saw St George City and Central Coast Mariners share the spoils as both teams played out a 1-1 draw in Round 10 of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition at Penshurst Park.

After a scoreless first half, it was the visitors who took the lead through a Cameron Windust header but St George City deservedly equalised via substitute Aiden Mostofi to round out the scoring on a windy and chilly autumn evening in Sydney’s South.

Western Sydney Wanderers 0 v Sutherland Sharks 1 at Wanderers Football Park – Full Report and Highlights

In the final match of Round 10 of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition, it was the Sutherland Sharks who took home the points with a 1-0 victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers in a tough affair on Easter Sunday at the Wanderers Football Park.
