Round 13 Review – NPL NSW Men’s

NPL Men's Round Review 13

Let’s check out the mini reviews from Round 13 of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition.

Sydney FC 4 v APIA Leichhardt 0 at Valentine Sports Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

Sydney FC recorded a spectacular 4-0 battering of APIA Leichhardt and ended their unbeaten start to the season in style on Friday night at Valentine Sports Park.

The Premiership hotshots who prior to this match were coming in as firm favourites were simply outclassed by their younger opponents as FC proved to be too hot to handle in a result that stunned many.

Alen Harbas gave the hosts the lead within ten minutes before Ben Gibson’s brace rounded out a phenomenal first half for Sydney FC.

Clayton Taylor picked up the fourth just after halftime to add further gloss to the home side’s performance.

NWS Spirit FC 0 v Rockdale Ilinden 1 at Christie Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

Rockdale Ilinden have returned to the winner’s circle following a run of three successive losses with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the NWS Spirit FC at a damp Christie Park on Saturday to reignite its National Premier League NSW Men’s Premiership hopes.

Pau Dee’s troops had to be patient despite being on top for most of the match, their eventual winner coming via Jaden Casella with five minutes remaining.

Sutherland Sharks 0 v St George City 2 at Seymour Shaw Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

St George City took home all the derby spoils thanks to a 2-0 victory against the Sutherland Sharks at a rain sodden Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday evening.

An early headed goal from Presley Ortiz and a late Kosta Petratos penalty all but sealed a valuable victory for Mirko Jurilj’s men.

Marconi Stallions 0 v Mt Druitt Town Rangers 1 at Marconi Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights

The Mount Druitt Town Rangers have caused a major upset downing the Marconi Stallions 1-0 at Marconi Stadium halting its run to the top of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s ladder.

It was the third win and by far the most important this season for the visitors who were up against a hungry Stallions outfit that failed to take advantage of APIA Leichhardt FC dropping points on Friday night.

Marconi would have ascended to the top of the NPL NSW Men’s ladder with a victory, but Mt Druitt managed to maintain their lead after an early goal from former player Anthony Frangie to claim an important three points for their 2023 campaign.

Sydney Olympic 2 v Wollongong Wolves 2 at Belmore Sports Ground – Full Match Report and Highlights

Sydney Olympic have now gone four games without a victory following a pulsating 2-2 draw against a rejuvenated Wollongong Wolves outfit in their Round 13 clash played at Belmore Sports Ground on a rainy Saturday evening.

A brace each to Roy O’Donovan for the home side and Lachlan Scott for the visitors accounted for the four wonderful goals.

It was Wollongong that took the lead very late in the first half through Scott before O’Donovan worked his magic in the second half with his two goals to put the home side in front before the Wolves attacker justifiably equalised for the visitors late in the game.

Western Sydney Wanderers 2 v Manly United 1 at Wanderers Football Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

Western Sydney Wanderers picked up a vital three points with a 2-1 win over Manly United at Wanderers Football Park.

Western Sydney Wanderers were reduced to 10 men nine minutes in, but that didn’t halt their progress as they opened the scoring off a clinical Zachary Sapsford burst in the 45th minute.

Manly United equalised thanks to a Seiya Kambayashi close range effort after a deflected Thomas Fay cross, but it was Sapsford who once again put the Wanderers ahead seven minutes later with a thumping strike into the top left corner.

The goal was enough to see the Wanderers through the match, with two red cards – one to each side – late on adding more drama to the match.

Central Coast Mariners 2 v Sydney United 58 FC 1 at Pluim Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

The Central Coast Mariners picked up their first win at Pluim Park coming from behind and scoring two goals in two minutes to secure the 2-1 win.

Former Mariner Chris Payne converted a penalty in the 35th minute before the Mariners struck back late in the game.

Lachlan Bayliss equalised with his own from the penalty spot, before setting up a tap-in for George Daniel just a minute later.

Blacktown City 4 v Bulls FC Academy 1 at Landen Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights

Blacktown City re-ignited their title ambitions earning an efficient 4-1 victory over Bulls FC Academy on Sunday afternoon at Landen Stadium.

It was an action-packed first half with Jesper Webber giving the visitors a lead in the 25th minute.

However, two goals before the half-hour mark from Jak O’Brien and Ben Berry earned Blacktown the halftime advantage.

After weathering an early second-half storm, the home side added twice to their lead with Lachlan Campbell and Mario Shabow both scoring.
