Sydney Olympic to take on traditional rivals South Melbourne FC in preseason friendly

Two traditional football rivals will lock horns on Saturday 13th January 2024 at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium when National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW side Sydney Olympic host NPL Victoria side South Melbourne FC.

Both clubs steeped in football history, the two proud Australian Greek teams will be playing for the inaugural ‘Greek Herald Cup’.

“The Greek Herald will sponsor this historically significant match, with both teams playing for the inaugural The Greek Herald Cup,” said Sydney Olympic FC Club President Damon Hanlin.

“The name of the cup was dedicated to the ongoing support that The Greek Herald has provided to the club over the years. Sydney Olympic FC would like to thank The Greek Herald for their continued support.

“The game will represent a new chapter in the history of these two great Australian clubs.

“We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces for a day of celebration and football.”

Olympic coach Labinot Haliti will be using this clash as a great opportunity to give his squad some much needed game time before the season kick’s off on February 16th, 2024.

While South Melbourne FC Head Coach Esteban Quintas will be looking forward to giving new recruits Harrison Sawyer and Nahuel Bonada to name a few do their thing against Olympic.

Location: Netstrata Jubilee Stadium (249 Princes Hwy, Kogarah NSW 2218)

Time: 5pm kick-off

Functions Details: Post-match dinner function 7 pm – 9pm more information to follow.

Match Tickets: Kids under the age of 15 are FREE. Concessions $10 All other tickets $20pp. Tickets to be purchased at the gate.

Blast from the past as the former National Soccer League (NSL) saw these two giants, Sydney Olympic and South Melbourne go head to head on many occasions.
