Ricciuto returns to Rockdale as Najjar moves to Korea
In breaking news, Rockdale Ilinden have welcomed back former club fan favourite Blake Ricciuto but have lost star recruit Moudi Najjar who has signed with K-League 3 outfit Hwaseong FC.
In what’s been labelled a bittersweet move for the ace marksman, coach Paul Dee was looking forward to seeing Najjar strut his stuff for his squad this year following his move to Rockdale. Najjar starred in the club’s preseason matches so much so, it was there that the 23-year-old caught the attention of South Korean third division outfit Hwaseong FC. Not standing in the player’s way, the club gave him their blessing to fulfil his aspirations playing abroad.
Dee however will be able to call upon the services of former star player Blake Ricciuto.
The 31-year-old central midfielder has returned to his old stomping ground after spending almost fie seasons playing in the Singaporean Premier League with DPMM FC and Tanjong Pagar United.
The tough tackling and workhorse midfielder was part of the Illinden squad during the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons.
His presence will be a huge lift for the squad as he hopes to steer the club to some silverware this season.
Ilinden have also signed Japanese import So Kataoka.
The attacking midfielder has made the move to the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW competition after spending two years in the Japanese third division.
The 31-year-old is the final signing for Ilinden as they look towards their first match of the 2024 season where they’ll be facing local rivals St George City on Saturday 17th of February at Penshurst Park.
