Stallions steamroll Sydney FC
The Marconi Stallions confidently secured three points with a 4-0 win over Sydney FC at Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre on Friday night ending the Sky Blues’ four match unbeaten streak.
The Stallions travelled to Rockdale with a mixed bag of recent results but marked their intentions early on with a goal from James Temelkovski in the 6th minute.
Fans waited until the 38th minute for another goal, this time from Franco Maya and Cameron Windust secured a third for the visitors before the half-time break.
Substitute Yuki Kitano secured a fourth for the Stallions in the 72nd minute, wrapping up the goals for the match despite plenty of further opportunity around the pitch.
The result sees Marconi in second position on the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s live ladder, while Sydney FC continue to struggle near the bottom of the ladder at 15th position.
A goal for Marconi came early in the match as Maya sent a low ball across the park to Temelkovski in front of goal, who slotted it past Sydney FC ‘keeper Daniel Solsky to open the scoring in the 6th minute.
Action continued across the pitch however it wasn’t until the 38th minute that another goal would come.
Anton Mlinaric looked forward from deep on the pitch to start the sequence for the second goal.
Maya played the ball to Daniel Bouman, who couldn’t get a shot past Sydney FC’s defence, leaving the ball to pop back out into play.
Maya then pounced on the opportunity and fired from comfortably outside the 18-yard box to finish.
A free kick in the final stages of first-half injury time saw Marconi net their third of the match.
Domenic Costanzo sent his corner kick into the area and met the head of the towering Windust, who guided it home.
Sydney FC substitute Bailey Callaghan sent a shot towards the target in the 64th minute, however it was calmly collected by James Hilton.
Costanzo fired a shot at the target moments later, but Joseph Calusic was able to stop his effort.
Substitute Yuki Kitano managed a goal in his first grade debut for Marconi in the 72nd minute, after being on the pitch for only five minutes
Daniel Bouman sent a ball forward to a running Kitano, who sent an impressive curling shot into the net to take the Stallions tally to four.
Temelkovski had an opportunity to take his tally to two as he got on the end of a great ball from Bouman to challenge Solsky one-on-one, but the young ‘keeper managed to position himself well to deny a fifth for Marconi.
A chance for the hosts came moments later as Namory Conde stripped Windust of the ball and attacked the goal, however Hilton was well-prepared to deny the hungry attacker.
Sydney FC came close again in the 83rd minute from a corner kick as Ayouk Mow attempted to let off a shot from close range, but Hilton was quick to react and shut down Sydney’s chance.
Temelkovski had another opportunity to score a second in the final stages of injury time, however he sent his shot straight to Solsky, leaving the score at 4-0 at the final whistle.
