Mirko Jurilj steps down as St George City coach
National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW side St George City have announced that after six seasons, Mirko Jurilj has stepped down from his Head Coaching role with Manny Spanoudakis announced as the new man in charge for the 2025 season.
Jurilj guided the club through the COVID period and elevated the status of the club with two top five finishes since promotion to the NPL Men’s NSW competition.
A long time coach at the club where he has taken numerous roles, Jurilj’s foray into the senior space coaching established him as one of the best coaches in the competition.
In 2020, the team was 10 points clear after 16 rounds and certain of promotion into NPL before COVID struck. The team had to do it all again in 2022 where Jurilj guided the club to promotion by finishing equal first with Central Coast Mariners then winning the Grand Final.
After another rebuild, the team played some scintillating football to finish fifth in the club’s first year in the NPL NSW Men’s competition which was replicated in 2024.
A top footballer in his day having played at the highest levels in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore, Jurilj was able to implement an attractive, pro-active playing style in line with the clubs vision and ambition.
Jurilj will stay on board at St George City in a technical role particularly in the youth space and hand the reigns to the Clubs inaugural coach – Manny Spanoudakis.
It will be a father and son combination as Manny will join his son James who is the first grade assistant coach for the new year ahead.
“Miki has been fantastic for the club and achieved success every season he was in charge,” said St George City’s Head of Football Aytek Genc.
“He has a great football mind, tactical flexibility and showed presence and authority.
“He will continue to be an important part of our clubs future.”
