Stallions stunned by ruthless Wolves

The Marconi Stallions’ unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday evening as the Wollongong Wolves secured a resounding 3-0 victory at Marconi Stadium
Lachlan Scott was the star of the show for the Wolves with an impressive hat-trick unanswered by Marconi, earning the visitors their first victory over the Stallions since 2019.
The game was the first loss of the 2025 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season for the hosts, who had only conceded seven goals heading into the match.
James Hilton was called into action early as Dylan Ryan sent a header towards the target from a free-kick opportunity in the 5th minute, but the Marconi custodian was able to calmly collect.
The visitors threatened again in the 13th minute, securing the opening goal early in the match.
Wollongong broke forward as Scott sent a ball blazing forward, and a fast-paced run from Raphael Le’ai saw the Wolves keep the ball in play.
Le’ai then sent a cross into the area where Scott nodded the ball into the netting.
A free kick gave the Wolves another chance in the 28th minute but Woon Sub Sim sent it soaring over the bar.
Nicholas Olsen sent a ball over the top to Alex Masciovecchio in the 38th minute, but his effort skewed right of the goal.
A corner for Marconi saw them with a promising chance in the 41st minute.
Domenic Costanzo sent the ball into the area to Jake Trew, who guided it towards the target but Scott managed an impressive clearance off the line to deny the hosts an equaliser.
The Wolves were hungry for more in the second stanza, doubling their lead just five minutes in.
Olsen maneuvered through the Marconi defence before playing the ball to Masciovecchio.
Masciovecchio then passed to Scott who confidently sent a shot over the line to secure his second of the evening in the 49th minute.
Trew had a shot on target in the 62nd minute but his effort was collected by Daniel Solsky.
Marconi substitute Damian Tsekenis tried his luck from range in the 66th minute but his effort slid wide of the target.
Costanzo set up James Bayliss with a perfect opportunity on the edge of the 18-yard-box in the 67th minute, but his shot couldn’t meet the target.
Olsen got on the end of a great ball in the 82nd minute and blazed forward before cutting back to Masciovecchio, who left the ball for an oncoming Scott.
Scott confidently fired the ball into the netting to secure a hat trick and put a nail in the coffin for the match.
