St George FC to take on Newcastle Jets in friendly encounter

Mark Milligan, the newly appointed coach of the Newcastle Jets will be bringing his squad to Barton Park next Wednesday night, July 16th for a trial match against National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW outfit St George FC.
The match with St George FC is part of important preparations for both the Jets’ 2025-26 A-League season as well as their upcoming Australia Cup Round of 32 clash against Adelaide United on the 30th of July at Maitland.
It is also a great occasion for St George FC.
“St George FC recognises Mark Milligan’s position as Head Coach of the Newcastle Jets and his links with the club,” said St George FC Chairman Bruce Spiteri.
“Mark had his first coaching experience with St George FC in 2022.
“It is a great chance for our younger players to shine and test themselves against a higher standard.
“St George FC is always looking to strengthen its commitment to the local community, bringing an A-League club to the district is part of our attempts to engage.”
The match gives St George FC players the opportunity to be identified and for the club to showcase its talents.
Bruce Spiteri is realistic, “we envisage in future a natural progression of some of our younger players being picked up by A-League clubs.”
Mark Milligan was recently spotted at a recent NPL Men’s NSW match between St George FC and APIA Leichhardt FC with Assistant Coach and another former NPL Men’s NSW alumni in Nick Stavroulakis who won Premierships, Championships and Waratah Cups with the Sutherland Sharks, Sydney United 58 and APIA Leichhardt FC.
