Wiggin returns from injury and ready to fire for Spirit’s Premiership cause

Back in the side after overcoming his second ACL injury, we spoke to NWS Spirit star striker Ollie Wiggin on the season so far and his outstanding recovery.
Spirit have enjoyed a sensational NPL Men’s NSW campaign, currently third on the ladder, just three points off top spot.
“It’s been an incredible season so far,’” said Wiggin.
“I think we’ve surprised a few people that we are where we are, but we have so many quality players all over the pitch who also work hard for each other and buy into the coaching staff’s game plan.”
Wiggin has returned to Spirit’s squad with a bang, scoring two goals in his last two games.
The latter of which came as the winner against Manly United, where Spirit picked up another crucial three points to remain firmly in the hunt for the Premiership.
“Personally I’m just buzzing to be back playing,” he said.
“This was my second time doing an ACL, so I put a lot of hard work in physically and mentally to be able to not just come back but come back an improved player to help the team in some capacity.
“Having seen Mikey Konestabo come back from his second ACL so well last year also gave me a lot of confidence.
“To score the winner against Manly was an extremely rewarding feeling.”
Next up, Spirit will take on the Sutherland Sharks at Christie Park on Saturday afternoon as they look to make it four wins in a row and continue to pile pressure on Rockdale Ilinden and Marconi Stallions ahead.
“In terms of the Sutherland game, I think it will be a really good match with some exciting players on both teams,” Wiggin said.
“They have signed some quality players in the window, so it should be good to watch.
“We are ready.”
And when asked about his goals for the rest of the season, Wiggin was clear in outlining what Spirit are striving for.
“The aim is to win a trophy and nothing less,” he said.
“The squad and coaching staff are working hard towards that.”
