Sutherland Sharks Appoint David Perkovic as Head Coach for 2026 Season

After surviving relegation in 2025, Sutherland Sharks FC have confirmed the appointment of David Perkovic as the new Head Coach of the Men’s First Team, ahead of the 2026 National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW season.
Perkovic joins the Sharks following a highly successful stint at NWS Spirit FC, where he led the club to the 2025 Premiership and built a reputation as one of the most promising managerial talents in Australian football.
Known for his tactical intelligence and attacking philosophy, Perkovic’s arrival is being heralded as a major step forward in the club’s ongoing transformation.
The appointment signals a clear statement of intent from the Sharks, who are aiming to translate recent off-field investments—such as upgrades to Seymour Shaw Park’s stadium, pitch, and training facilities—into sustained success on the pitch.
Speaking on his new role, Perkovic said he was honoured to take charge of the club’s senior men’s side.
“I’m honoured to lead the Sharks’ men’s first team.
“The club has made strong progress off the field, and our goal is to match that on the pitch. With its proud history, my focus is to create an environment where we can write a new chapter and deliver success for our supporters and community to enjoy.”
Sutherland Sharks General Manager, Trent McClenahan, praised the appointment and highlighted the alignment between the coach’s vision and the club’s ambitions.
“David is one of the most highly regarded coaches in Australian football. His track record speaks for itself, and his ambition aligns perfectly with where we want to take this club. Having experienced the game at a range of levels, I know the value of bringing in someone of David’s calibre, and we’re thrilled he’s chosen to join us at Sutherland.”
Perkovic’s focus on player development and team cohesion is expected to play a pivotal role as the club enters a new era. His leadership promises an exciting future for the Sharks, as they look to climb the NPL Men’s NSW ladder in 2026 and beyond.
