A last-minute free kick from Farah Koko secured Sydney United 58 their sixth straight victory, defeating Sydney FC in dramatic fashion on Sunday evening at Sydney United Sports Centre.

The result extends United 58’s lead at the top of the National Premier Leagues NSW table after a hard-fought contest against a determined Sydney FC side.

The decisive moment came in the final minute of stoppage time when substitute Farah Koko curled a superb free kick from the edge of the box past goalkeeper Gus Hoefsloot to seal a sensational late win.

It was a fierce contest between two teams eager to maintain their strong starts to the season, producing an entertaining match for the fans in attendance.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts when Tilo broke through the defence and charged toward goal, but his effort lacked power and was comfortably saved by Hoefsloot.

The visitors responded soon after, coming close to opening the scoring when Joe Lacey’s low-driven shot forced an excellent save from Adam Pavlesic.

Mathias Macallister came within inches of a spectacular goal in the 23rd minute when his curling effort crashed against the post.

Sydney FC then placed the United 58 defence under sustained pressure for a ten-minute spell, peppering the backline with several dangerous shots that were eventually cleared.

United 58 soon worked their way back into the match, with a long-range strike from Bailey Rule nearly finding the target before Hoefsloot produced another strong save.

After an entertaining opening 45 minutes, both defences held firm and the sides went into the break scoreless.

The early stages of the second half saw both teams create attacking opportunities as the tempo of the game increased.

However, neither side was able to capitalise on their chances as several promising moves broke down in front of goal.

United 58 continued to press forward in the closing stages and came agonisingly close from consecutive corners delivered by Carlos De Oliveira, with both crosses narrowly missing their targets.

With only minutes remaining, Mitchell Glasson had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock when a dangerous ball found him at the back post, but his shot rifled into the side netting.

As stoppage time ticked away, United 58 were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, presenting one final chance to secure victory.

Koko stepped up and produced a superb strike, curling the ball over the wall and beyond the outstretched hands of Hoefsloot to seal a dramatic win.

Despite a courageous performance from the Sky Blues, Sydney United 58 FC claimed all three points to continue their impressive start to the season.
