UNSW FC Run Riot to Claim Statement Win and Back-to-Back Victories

UNSW FC delivered their most complete performance of the season, producing a ruthless display to dismantle a hapless St George City 5–0 at The Village Green on Saturday night and leapfrog their opponents on the ladder.
With just three points separating the two sides heading into the clash, the opening exchanges were predictably tight. The first 15 minutes saw both teams cancel each other out, struggling to create any clear-cut chances in a cagey start.
It was UNSW FC’s explosive counterattacking ability that ultimately broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. After defending a St George free kick deep in their own half, UNSW transitioned swiftly, moving the ball into the path of Jyden Harb, who surged forward before linking up with Oliver Puflett. The striker’s excellent hold-up play drew defenders in and opened space behind the line, allowing Harb to continue his run. Receiving the return pass, Harb showed composure beyond his years, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner to give the home side the lead.
The contest opened up from there, with both sides enjoying attacking opportunities. St George came close through Yohn Pedersen, while at the other end Jack Fulton missed a golden chance to double UNSW’s advantage, dragging his effort wide from the edge of the box.
Fulton, however, responded in style just ten minutes later, playing a key role in a brilliantly worked second goal. Linking up with UNSW FC’s attacking trio, he delivered a precise ball out to the right for Harb, who had time to assess his options before picking out Puflett with a pinpoint cross. Puflett made no mistake, tapping home to give UNSW FC a 2–0 lead just before the half-time break.
UNSW FC carried that momentum into the second half, dominating possession and dictating the tempo while limiting St George’s chances of a comeback. The visitors did threaten briefly when Jesse Photi forced a sharp diving save from Tristian Prendergast with a powerful header, but it proved to be a rare moment of resistance.
The hosts put the result beyond doubt with just over 15 minutes remaining. Emilio Vinci’s deep cross found Timothy Wohlfiel unmarked at the back post, and the fullback showed great composure to take a touch before drilling home UNSW’s third goal—securing the club’s first-ever home win in the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW.
With confidence surging, UNSW FC piled on the pressure in the closing stages.
Both Puflett and Harb completed their braces, capping off a dominant and free-flowing attacking performance that left St George with no answers.
After the match, head coach Gabe Knowles praised his side’s execution and intent, underlining that this performance reflects the standard they are striving to maintain.
“We came here and executed well, showed our intent. I’m happy,” Knowles said, before adding a note of focus for the weeks ahead.
“Is this us moving forward? I hope so, but we will have to keep working hard for that.”
Among the standout performers, Harb expressed his satisfaction at returning to the scoresheet and contributing to a complete team display.
“It’s always good to get on the score sheet. Obviously, I’ve been in a bit of a goal drought myself, but credit to Pufflett for the amazing hold-up play that allowed me to finish the move,” he said.
The emphatic victory not only secures back-to-back wins for UNSW FC but also signals their growing confidence and attacking firepower, as they continue to make their mark in their debut National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW campaign.
