St George FC have confirmed a change in leadership, parting ways with head coach Raphael Marie ahead of their Round 14 clash this Sunday.

The NPL Men’s NSW outfit will now be led by experienced coach Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown, who steps into the role after previously serving as the club’s Coaching Director.

Marie departs after returning to the club this season, having earlier guided St George’s Under 20s side to the 2023 League One Men’s Championship.

The side currently sit in tenth position after 13 matches, just four points outside the top six. It’s been seven rounds since the Saints picked up a win, the last coming in round 6 in a 2-0 win over Sydney Olympic FC.

Club Chairman Bruce Spiteri acknowledged Marie’s contribution while expressing confidence in the new appointment.

“We thank Raphael Marie for his time and dedication,” Spiteri said.

“Brian Brown, our Coaching Director, will step in to lead the coaching staff going forward.”

Brown brings a wealth of experience to the role and is widely respected across the NPL Men’s NSW landscape. The 69-year-old Scotsman has previously managed several prominent clubs including Blacktown City FC, Marconi Stallions, Sutherland Sharks, Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Hills United.

His decorated coaching résumé includes multiple Coach of the Year honours, having claimed the award in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Brown’s immediate focus will be preparing the side for a crucial encounter against Blacktown City FC at Landen Stadium, as St George FC look to reignite their campaign and mount a push toward the finals series in the second half of the season.
