Captain Major Leads Blacktown City to Vital Victory Over St George FC

Blacktown City have secured a crucial 2-1 victory over St George FC in a high-tempo Round 14 clash at Landen Stadium, with captain Travis Major delivering a decisive brace to seal all three points for the hosts.
The win could prove pivotal for Blacktown City as they continue their push to climb away from the lower end of the ladder and strengthen their position in the fight to avoid relegation pressure.
The match began at a fast pace, with Nikola Skataric firing over inside the opening minute before St George responded through Jaden Casella, whose early free-kick was comfortably handled by Cayden Henderson.
Blacktown City looked threatening early, coming close in the 8th minute when Nathan Grimaldi picked out Major inside the area, only for Vedran Janjetovic to produce a scrappy but important save to deny the opener.
St George had chances of their own, with Casella unable to convert from close range in the 10th minute before Kota Toyooka struck the crossbar in the 27th minute with a powerful effort from distance.
After an end-to-end first half, Blacktown City broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. Major surged down the right and delivered a dangerous ball that drifted over Janjetovic and into the net, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
St George responded strongly after halftime and levelled in the 49th minute through substitute Nicholas Stavropoulos. Kaidyn Wright’s initial shot was saved by Henderson, but Stavropoulos reacted quickest to tap home from close range.
Parity was short-lived. In the 66th minute, Major struck again for Blacktown City, driving forward before calmly finishing into the bottom corner to restore the lead.
St George pushed late in search of another equaliser, with a promising chance from a Kimishima corner in the 74th minute, but Rocco Smith couldn’t convert from close range, Stavropoulos also had a late effort in the 83rd minute, but his shot was comfortably saved.
Blacktown City stood firm in the closing stages to secure a hard-fought and important 2-1 victory.
