Three goals, three points and a clean sheet made for a memorable Sunday afternoon at Landen Stadium as Blacktown City FC secured a convincing 3-0 victory over St George City FA.

Blacktown City controlled much of the contest, particularly during the opening half, where they created the majority of the attacking opportunities and established a two-goal advantage before the break.

The match began with an open and energetic start, with both sides trading possession in the early stages but struggling to create any clear-cut opportunities.

New Blacktown City FC recruit Alou Kuol quickly showed his attacking threat, using his pace and strength to test the St George City FA defence.

Mitch Mallia and Kuol created the first real chances of the match, with Mallia seeing a low effort comfortably collected by the St George goalkeeper before Kuol headed narrowly wide following a well-worked corner routine.

Kuol would not be denied for long, opening the scoring in the 17th minute. Rising above the St George City FA defence, the striker powered home a brilliant header from an equally impressive cross by Travis Major.

Mallia attempted to recreate the moment shortly after, combining with Major for another headed opportunity, but the effort lacked the power to trouble goalkeeper Jack Kenny.

Blacktown City continued to apply pressure, with fans calling for a foul after Kuol was brought down just outside the penalty area in the 32nd minute. The referee allowed play to continue, with Mallia receiving the opportunity to finish the attack, only for Kenny to make a good save.

The hosts doubled their advantage just before half-time when Mallia found space inside the penalty area and produced a superb finish beyond the St George defence to make it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.

St George City returned from the break with renewed composure, improving defensively and creating more attacking opportunities as they looked to get back into the contest.

Stefano Rosello led the charge for the visitors, testing Blacktown City with a promising strike in the 56th minute that lacked the required accuracy.

The match also featured a unique family battle, with brothers Adam Berry and Ben Berry lining up on opposite sides before a strong challenge from Blacktown City’s Adam on his sibling brought a moment of intensity.

Blacktown City continued to threaten, with Mallia almost producing a spectacular goal when he attempted to chip goalkeeper Kenny, who reacted quickly to tip the effort over the crossbar.

Despite St George City’s improved second-half performance, Blacktown City sealed the result through another new signing in Sasha Kuzevski.

Once again, Major provided the assist, delivering a clever chip into the path of Kuzevski, who produced a composed finish of his own to lift the ball into the corner of the net and score his first goal in Blacktown City colours.

The victory marked Blacktown City’s first clean-sheet win since their 1-0 victory over NWS Spirit in Round 12, providing a significant boost as they continue their campaign.
