APIA Leichhardt Tigers have appointed Nicola Rizzo as acting coach for the remainder of the IGA National Premier Leagues Mens 1 season.
The club has mutually parted company with Gary Ward with the team languishing in eleventh position on the ladder.
Rizzo, an experienced campaigner and former Socceroo, will have his work cut out as early as this Saturday as the Tigers take on staunch rivals Marconi Stallions at Lambert Park in what has been billed as a must win for the Inner West side.
The team were punished in round 5 of the competition when they were downed by a hungry Sydney United 58 outfit 5-1.
One promising aspect coming from Lambert Park is the form of young promising striker Nikola Taneski who has managed to notch up four goals in five matches for the Tigers.
Taneski will most certainly be a sought after player come end of the season but the 33-year-old will be hoping his goalscoring form continues under his reign as acting coach.
The likes of experienced campaigners Mark Byrnes, Adel El Jamal, Stephen Kayes, David D’Apuzzo, and Franco Parisi will also be looked at for leadership while the tall presence of French striker Gerard Ouffoue who has come off the bench and scored in his last two matches may play a more prominent role for the club.
