Stamatellis ready for Brisbane Olympic FC test
Sydney United 58 FC defender Mitchell Stamatellis has stressed the importance of his club’s round two National Premier Leagues Finals Series clash against Brisbane Olympic FC this Saturday at QSAC in what promises to be a blockbuster affair between two proud clubs.
Stamatellis was buoyed after the Reds’ hard fought 2-1 victory over Canberra FC at Sydney United Sports Centre with goals from Mirjan Pavlovic and Matthew Bilic last weekend albeit with ten men after the sending off of Daniel Barac.
“We knew we were in for a very tough match and this showed with the result.
“Going into the match we heard that Canberra FC did very well in their league so we knew we had to be at our very best to beat them.
“The match itself was a grind, it was a hard fought win for us but I felt a draw would have been a fair result.
“Either way we got the much needed win for the club and our supporters.”
With kick-off set for 6pm at Brisbane, they face a team full of former Brisbane Roar youngsters as well as some of the state’s finest players in what will be a massive match against Jim Bellas’ squad.
Players such as keeper Mario Aparicio a former Parramatta Power goalkeeper, Matt Byrne, Matt Mundy, Jack Petrie, Jake McLean, Jain Ingham and Tim Smits to name a few will be some of the players out to gun the IGA National Premier Leagues NSW Mens 1 Premiers a spot in the 2013 NPL Final.
“We know that OIympic won their league convincingly so this will by no means be an easy match but we are prepared and ready to do what it takes to win this match and hopefully stage the NPL Finals at our home ground in front of our vocal supporters.
“This has been a great initiative shown by the FFA in putting together a structure for the NPL Finals Series and we would love nothing more than to be known as the inaugural winners of this, but first things first, we need to beat Brisbane this weekend which will be no easy match.”
The winner of this match will take on either Tasmanian Premiers South Hobart FC or South Australian Champions Campbelltown City SC who will go head to head this Sunday at South Hobart Ground with a midday kick-off scheduled.
