Sharks Begin New Era Ahead of 2026 NPL NSW Season

A major squad transformation is underway at Sutherland Sharks FC as the club said farewell to 19 players from its 2025 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s roster, signalling the beginning of a bold new chapter under the watchful eye of new coach David Perkovic.
The Sharks formally confirmed the departures via their social media channels, issuing a statement acknowledging the contributions of all outgoing players:
“Before we wrap up our 95th year and look ahead to 2026, we want to acknowledge every player who’s been part of our story this season.
Some of you joined us for a short chapter, others for a few seasons. Each of you contributed to what this club stands for.
While your time in our colours comes to an end, the memories and effort you’ve given will always be part of our history.
Thank you, and good luck with what comes next.”
The departing players include Jordan Roberts, Jacob Garner, Ikko Ehode Arimoto, Riley Fowler, Mo Ahmed, Kotaro Katsuta, Nick Sullivan, Lachlan Fields, Matthew Moric, Maki Petratos, Kosta Petratos, Mason Fernandez, Daniel Wong, Peter Grozos, Matthew Jackson, Leo Mazis, Thomas Stobierski, Jaden Gasking, and Jacob Tresoglavic.
The extensive player turnover comes as the club enters a new football era under Perkovic, who was appointed earlier this year to lead the Sharks’ senior men’s program. Perkovic’s arrival marks the beginning of a long-term rebuild aimed at elevating the club’s performance and returning Sutherland to the top end of NPL NSW Men’s football.
The Sharks confirmed that details of new player signings will be announced in the coming weeks, with the 2026 squad expected to feature a fresh, ambitious lineup combining experience with youth.
These changes form part of Sutherland Sharks FC’s ambitious three-year football plan, which sets clear objectives including:
- Winning the First Grade Premiership within three years
- Building a first-grade squad anchored by Sharks-developed players
- Promoting at least two youth or Under 20 players to first grade each season
- Supporting at least one player annually in progressing to an A-League or overseas professional contract
- Securing Youth promotion to NPL 1 at the next available opportunity
- Lifting JDL and Youth programs from Silver to Gold meeting Football NSW’s highest benchmark
- Deepening its partnership with Sutherland Shire Football Association including 100% of SSFA clubs engaged in annual coaching workshops and at least 70% of youth squads filled with SSFA developed players by 2028
In addition, the club has announced the appointment of Christopher “Kiki” Naumoff as Head of Youth, reinforcing its commitment to youth development and the pathway from academy to senior football.
As the Sharks prepare for their milestone 96th season, the club’s leadership has made its intentions clear, to build success on a foundation of professionalism, player development, and a deep connection to its community.
