Sydney Olympic Football Club has announced the appointment of David Magrone as Head Coach of the Men’s Senior Teams, marking a significant step forward in the club’s long-term technical vision.

Magrone arrives with a rare blend of elite European experience and a deep commitment to Australian player development. His career spans high-performance coaching, tactical analysis, recruitment, and youth mentorship, a combination that positions him perfectly to lead Sydney Olympic into a new era.

Magrone’s coaching pedigree includes time on the Tottenham Hotspur first-team staff, where he was appointed by former manager Tim Sherwood. In that role, he contributed detailed tactical analysis, produced advanced video scouting reports, and assisted in developing training sessions for Premier League fixtures.

He later served as Tottenham’s Chief European Scout, identifying emerging talent across the continent and helping shape long-term recruitment strategies for the club. His eye for potential continued at Queens Park Rangers, where he worked closely with Technical Director Les Ferdinand as Chief Scout, contributing to key player acquisition decisions tailored to QPR’s footballing philosophy.

A notable chapter in Magrone’s career was his mentorship of Massimo Luongo, helping guide the former Socceroo from his early development in Sydney to signing with Tottenham Hotspur and launching a successful European career.

In 2021, Magrone took on the role of Head Coach at AO Trikala in Greece’s Super League 2, where he was tasked with implementing a possession-based playing identity built around youth development.

Sydney Olympic FC President Chris Charalambous welcomed the appointment.

“We are thrilled to welcome David Magrone to Sydney Olympic. His global experience, his commitment to player development, and his strategic vision align perfectly with our ambition to build a club that wins today and nurtures tomorrow’s stars.”

Magrone expressed his excitement to join the club.

“There is tremendous potential here. By aligning our technical philosophy across every squad, we can build something special. My goal is to help our players develop not just for Sydney Olympic, but for their broader careers in football.”

While the appointment comes at a busy period of squad planning, the club believes Magrone’s experience and strategic approach will provide strong leadership as player recruitment progresses.
