Hakoah Sydney City East exceeded expectations as the new boys on the scene during the 2016 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season.

With a new coach and some new additions to their squad, the boys from Hensley Athletic Field will be out to go even better in 2017.

The Coach

Assistant coach Gavin Rae has taken the reigns from 2016 Hakoah head coach Mark Robertson and is determined to build on the side’s impressive showing from last season. Despite the coaching change, the former Scottish International will stick to a similar style of stodgy defence and quick counter attacks. Rae has promised a few new wrinkles to their offence this season as the eastern suburbs boys set out to once again shock the competition big guns.

Objectives

Improvement is the most important thing for Hakoah this season. Rae has set out to go better than the ninth placed finish of 2016. Hakoah were often the competition’s surprise packets last time around, however they won’t have that luxury during their second season in the top flight.

Player To Watch

Anthony Bouzanis –  Hakoah is banking on a big year from Young Socceroos and former Sydney FC shot stopper Anthony Bouzanis. The 21-year-old has the same expectations of himself. With aspirations of a return to the Hyundai A-League, Bouzanis is determined to fulfil his huge potential. Brother of current keeper Dean Bouzanis at Melbourne City, Anthony is hoping follow in his brother’s footsteps.

Rising Star

Jack Green and Oliver Green – After switching from Sydney Olympic in the offseason, midfield maestro’s Jack and Oliver Green have their eyes set on making the jump from talented youngsters to regular first graders. Gavin Rae has expressed his desire to give his young squad every opportunity to impress throughout the season so the Green brothers will have a chance to make their mark.

Coaches Comments

“We have a squad full of hungry young lads who have every chance to succeed. While as a club we see this as a transitional year, we are determined to improve and continue our climb up the ladder.” – Gavin Rae.
