Round 30 Preview – NPL Men’s NSW
The final round of the 2026 NPL Men’s NSW regular season is upon us, with everything still to play for in the battle for finals football.
While APIA Leichhardt have already secured the Premiership, the fight for the remaining Top Six positions is set to go down to the wire, with Sydney FC, NWS Spirit, Rockdale Ilinden and SD Raiders all still harbouring finals ambitions.
There is also plenty at stake in the battle for second place, with Marconi Stallions and Sydney United 58 separated by just a point, while Manly United and Sutherland Sharks will be looking to secure their respective finals positions.
With eight fixtures taking place simultaneously on Sunday afternoon, the final round promises plenty of drama.
Sydney Olympic FC vs Sydney FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Belmore Sports Ground
Sydney Olympic will play their final game in the NPL Men’s NSW competition for at least a year after being automatically relegated following their defeat to Marconi Stallions last weekend.
The loss left Olympic five points behind St George FC with just one match remaining.
The traditional New South Wales powerhouse will be looking to go out with a bang on Sunday in front of their home fans, before turning their attention towards their Australian Championship campaign.
However, standing in their way is a fired-up Sydney FC side who desperately need a win to give themselves a chance of making the Top Six.
The Sky Blues currently sit seventh, separated from sixth only by goal difference, but with the two sides above them facing tricky fixtures, a victory could be enough to see them finish 2026 with finals football.
After their dramatic late victory over Rockdale Ilinden last weekend, Jimmy Van Weeren’s young side will be full of confidence and know that nothing less than three points will likely be enough.
For Olympic, meanwhile, it is about ending their NPL Men’s NSW campaign with pride.
Wollongong Wolves FC vs Manly United FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Macedonia Park
Wollongong Wolves and Manly United will face off in a massive finals battle at Macedonia Park.
After a horror run of form, the Wolves have found their feet again at the perfect time, with back-to-back victories moving them to within two points of the Top Six.
However, it may be too little, too late for Wollongong, with heavy competition for sixth spot.
They could leapfrog this weekend’s opposition, who currently sit fifth, but will need to win by three goals or more to overturn the current goal difference deficit.
Manly, meanwhile, are not yet guaranteed a finals position.
If both Sydney FC and NWS Spirit win and Manly draw or lose, they could be pushed out of the Top Six on the final day.
That makes this a genuine winner-takes-all style contest, with both clubs knowing exactly what is at stake.
For Wollongong, a strong home performance could cap off a remarkable late-season revival, while Manly will be desperate to protect their position and secure their first finals appearance since 2022.
Blacktown City FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Valentine Sports Park
Blacktown City will face Western Sydney Wanderers in both teams’ final match of the 2026 campaign.
Blacktown experienced a difficult season, spending large parts of it in and around the bottom two.
A late surge in form then took them close to finals contention, but they have been unable to sustain those results towards the end of the campaign and come into this one without a win in their last three matches.
The Wanderers are also winless in their last three, having otherwise enjoyed a relatively strong campaign highlighted by Awan Lual’s incredible goalscoring form.
They will be looking to finish 2026 with one final victory and give their supporters something to celebrate.
With the two sides separated on the ladder, the winner of this clash is guaranteed to finish above the other, adding another layer of importance to their final match of the season.
Marconi Stallions FC vs NWS Spirit FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Marconi Stadium
Marconi Stallions will take on NWS Spirit in an exhilarating Sunday afternoon fixture at Marconi Stadium.
Marconi will likely need a victory to secure second place, which would be crucial as it would allow them to avoid a midweek Elimination Final and earn themselves a home Semi-Final.
The Stallions have produced some important results in recent weeks and will be looking to finish the regular season strongly before turning their attention to the Championship Series.
However, they will face a Spirit side arriving in excellent form.
NWS Spirit have won three games on the trot and now have their season firmly on the line, with a victory almost certainly earning them a place in the finals.
That makes this a huge fixture for both clubs.
Marconi are fighting for second, while Spirit are fighting simply to survive in the finals race.
It is all to play for, and this promises to be a feisty and exciting match-up.
Rockdale Ilinden FC vs UNSW FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre
Rockdale Ilinden will take on UNSW FC at home in what will likely be the final match of their 2026 campaign.
Rockdale still have the slimmest of hopes of making the finals, but they will need Spirit, Sydney FC and SD Raiders to all lose.
They will be aiming to do their part and leave no opportunity missed, but their recent form has made the task even more difficult, with Rockdale without a win in their last five games.
Interestingly, their opponents are the only other team in the competition without a win in their last five, with UNSW experiencing a difficult end to their first campaign in the NPL Men’s NSW competition.
Having secured safety from relegation, UNSW will nevertheless be playing for pride on Sunday afternoon and will be determined to prevent Rockdale from having any chance of sneaking into the Top Six.
APIA Leichhardt FC vs St George City FA
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Lambert Park
The 2026 NPL Men’s NSW Premiers will be crowned in front of an excited home crowd when APIA Leichhardt take on St George City at Lambert Park.
APIA secured the Premiership last weekend with a 0-0 draw against Sydney United 58, leaving them four points clear heading into the final round.
The league leaders have been deserved champions throughout the campaign, scoring by far the most goals of any side and averaging an astonishing 2.1 goals per match.
Now, they will have the opportunity to celebrate their Premiership success in front of their home supporters.
They will be looking to put on a show against St George City before turning their attention towards the Championship Series, where the natural aim will be to complete the double.
For St George City, the fixture provides another opportunity to test themselves against the Premiers after a remarkable late-season run which has kept their finals hopes alive for much of the second half of the campaign.
Sydney United 58 FC vs St George FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Sydney United Sports Centre
Sydney United 58 will host St George FC in their final regular-season match of 2026.
United 58 will require a Marconi loss or draw in their attempts to secure a Top Two position, unless they run rampant against St George, with the goal difference firmly in Marconi’s favour.
Otherwise, they will head into a midweek home Elimination Final.
United have been one of the league’s strongest sides throughout the campaign and will be desperate to secure the double chance and home Semi-Final that comes with finishing second.
St George, meanwhile, will also be looking beyond this match.
Having secured safety from automatic relegation following Sydney Olympic’s defeat to Marconi, the Saints’ attention will now turn towards their Promotion/Relegation Playoff against the second-placed team from the League One Men’s competition.
Having secured two wins, two draws and just one defeat in recent weeks, St George will be looking to take some more good form and confidence into those do-or-die clashes following the conclusion of the regular season.
Sutherland Sharks FC vs SD Raiders FC
3:00pm, Sunday 30 August – Seymour Shaw
Sutherland Sharks will play SD Raiders at Seymour Shaw having freshly secured Australian Championship qualification in historic fashion.
The Sharks sit fourth on 46 points, five clear of Manly United in fifth, meaning their place in the finals and their qualification for the Australian Championship are confirmed.
Their achievement has capped off a remarkable season for Sutherland, who will now look to finish the regular season strongly in front of their home supporters.
Standing in their way is an SD Raiders side that requires a win and results elsewhere to go their way if they are to make the Top Six.
The Raiders currently sit ninth, just two points behind Spirit in sixth, meaning they will be bringing everything they have to ensure this is not their final match of the 2026 season.
After their remarkable Australia Cup campaign and strong first season in the top flight, Goran Ljuboja’s side will be determined to produce one final push for a finals berth.
With Sutherland already assured of their finals place and Raiders fighting for survival in the finals race, there is still plenty to play for at Seymour Shaw.
