Sydney United 58 secured a valuable three points with a 2-0 victory over Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

A penalty conversion from Patrick Antelmi in the 65th minute and a 91st minute goal from substitute Stephan De Robillard saw the hosts come out on top of the hard-fought match.

Matthew Hatch had the first chance of the match in the 6th minute as he fired from long-range but couldn’t connect with the target.

The hosts were back applying pressure in the 7th minute as Bailey Rule tried his luck with a close effort but it flew just above the crossbar.

Just minutes later United 58 created another opportunity with Leroy Jennings sending a low shot towards the target, but it dribbled just wide.

Mt Druitt had a chance in the 18th minute through Caleb Jackson-Brown but his effort flew above the target.

A foul just outside the area gave the visitors another opportunity in the 30th minute but they couldn’t get close enough.

Thomas Lopez came inches away from the opener for Mt Druitt in the 38th minute, but again the visitors couldn’t quite meet the target.

A free kick opportunity in the 45th minute gave United 58 a chance but despite an impressive ball in from Carlos De Oliveira, Antelmi couldn’t guide the ball into the goal from close range.

Mario Shabow sent a ball into the area in the 60th minute setting up Antelmi well, but his header was slightly misguided.

The hosts came hunting for more in the 60th minute as Rule sent a ball into the area but Mt Druitt’s Zac Sfiligoi managed a crucial block to deny United 58 from taking the opening goal.

Anthony Tomelic sent a lovely ball to a forward-running Aidan Milicevic in the 63rd minute, but Sfiligoi brought him down in the area, giving United 58 a penalty.

Antelmi stepped up to the spot and confidently sent the ball into the bottom corner to convert and secure the opening goal in the 65th minute.

Substitute Garang Awak sent a shot towards the goal for Mt Druitt in the 84th minute, forcing a save and earning the visitors a corner, but they couldn’t manage to threaten from the corner.

Sydney United made a fast-paced counter attack, with Antelmi rushing forward with the ball to go one-on-one with ‘keeper Dylan Niski, but the attacker sent it straight to Niski.

The hosts continued applying pressure, earning a free kick from a dangerous position on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Substitute De Robillard’s low free kick effort was blocked by Mt Druitt’s defensive wall, keeping United 58 from doubling their lead.

Milicevic played a solid ball to De Robillard on the left flank in the 91st minute and the attacker maneuvered his way into the area solo.

He sent a shot past Niski and into the netting, securing the victory for the hosts with their second of the afternoon.
