Round 9 of the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW offers early title-challenging clashes and crucial form-builders for teams as the competition continues to provide excitement.

Here is the preview for this weekend’s action.

APIA LEICHHARDT FC V WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS FC

5:00 pm, Friday 3 April – Lambert Park

Round 9 kicks off with APIA welcoming the Wanderers on Friday night.

The hosts have claimed maximum points in their last five matches, which has pushed them into a tie for second place with Marconi.

The Wanderers were on a similarly flying before last weekend’s defeat to the Stallions, but they remain in the hunt for a top-six spot.

Last season APIA had the better of their opponents with two victories across the regular season, including a 6-1 win in Round 7.

Friday night’s match will be an interesting battle between these sides as they target three points to maintain their push up the table.

MANLY UNITED FC V SYDNEY FC

7:00 pm, Friday 3 April – Cromer Park

The later match on Friday night sees Manly United take on Sydney FC, with both teams desperate for a result.

United have scored just once since Round 3, and have the lowest goal tally of any side in the competition with four. The team is on a five-game losing run heading into Friday’s game.

The young Sky Blues are also on a barren run, with no wins in their last four matches and just one goal in that time.

Sydney FC did not concede against Manly in 2025, drawing 0-0 in Round 4 before winning 6-0 in Round 19.

With these teams needing to win to get back on track, this game will be crucial.

SYDNEY OLYMPIC FC V SUTHERLAND SHARKS FC

5:00 pm, Saturday 4 April – Belmore Sports Ground

Sydney Olympic extended their losing run to five matches on Round 8, despite taking the lead against Wollongong, as they look to end the streak this weekend.

The Sharks have now won three games in the competition, having lost their first three, which has seen them push up to the middle of the table.

Olympic will look to rely on their perfect record against the Sharks in 2025, where they claimed a 5-1 win in Round 4 and a 2-1 win in Round 19.

Form has been hard to come by for Olympic and Sutherland in 2026, making Saturday’s clash all the more valuable.

SD RAIDERS FC V WOLLONGONG WOLVES FC

5:15 pm, Saturday 4 April – Ernie Smith Reserve

The Wolves carried on their good run of form, winning their third game in their last four against Sydney Olympic in Round 8.

Raiders have also been on a resurgent run, registering back-to-back wins having failed to win any of their first six games.

The hosts produced an upset against their opponents in the 2025 Australia Cup on their route to the Round of 32.

With results turning around for these teams as of late, Saturday’s game promises to be a hotly contested battle.

NWS SPIRIT FC V UNSW FC

5:30 pm, Saturday 4 April – Penshurst Park

Spirit face a rejuvenated UNSW outfit on Saturday, with greater momentum in the competition up for grabs.

The home side got back to winning ways in Round 8, with an eye-catching 3-0 win over early flyers St George, in a result that kept them on course for the top six.

UNSW have put a challenging beginning to life in the NPL Men’s NSW behind them, with back-to-back victories over Sydney FC and St George City, scoring seven goals and conceding none in the process.

These teams were the premiers of their respective competitions in 2025 and find themselves only five points apart, setting up a big match on Saturday evening.

ST GEORGE CITY FA V BLACKTOWN CITY FC

7:15 pm, Saturday 4 April – Penhurst Park

St George City play host to Blacktown City on Saturday night, with both teams needing a win to get their seasons up and running.

St George City suffered a heavy defeat to UNSW in Round 8 in a result which compounded a challenging start to 2026.

Blacktown also continued their tough run in the competition with a narrow loss to SD Raiders last round.

The visitors won both of their games against St George City in 2025 and will hope to continue that record on Saturday.

ROCKDALE ILINDEN FC V ST GEORGE FC

3:00 pm, Sunday 5 April – Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre

Rockdale face St George in the only match on Sunday in a high-stakes encounter.

Rockdale have lost two of their last three games, but they are still fifth in the table, and won both encounters with the Saints in 2025.

After a super start to the year, St George have experienced two defeats in a row, coming against Marconi and NWS Spirit. They have conceded five goals in their last two games after not conceding a single one in their first six.

With these teams embroiled in a battle for the finals places, a win on Sunday could prove vital to achieving a spot in the business end of the season.

SYDNEY UNITED 58 FC V MARCONI STALLIONS FC

3:00 pm, Monday 6 April – Sydney United Sports Centre

Monday presents a mouthwatering clash as title heavyweights United 58 and Marconi go head-to-head.

United 58 won their eighth match in a row last weekend, as they maintained their five-point lead at the top of the table. The side are the only undefeated team left in the competition.

The Stallions have recovered from their recent blip, having won three games in a row – all by a single goal.

Marconi bested their opponents in all three of their 2025 match-ups, including a penalty victory in the Finals Series.

This game could have significant implications for the top places of the competition at this early stage of the year.
