Round 26 Preview – NPL Men’s NSW
With just five rounds remaining in the 2026 NPL Men’s NSW regular season, every fixture carries significant importance as clubs continue their battles for the Premiership, finals football and survival.
The title race remains wide open, the Top Six battle is heating up, and several clubs are fighting for crucial points at the bottom of the table as the business end of the season arrives.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs UNSW FC
3:00pm, Saturday 1 August – Wanderers Football Park
Western Sydney Wanderers will open Round 26 when they host UNSW FC at Wanderers Football Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Wanderers enter the contest full of confidence following one of their best performances of the season, producing a dominant 4-0 victory over NWS Spirit in the Match of the Round last weekend.
Once again, Wanderers star striker Awan Lual was the difference maker, scoring his second consecutive brace to take his incredible season tally to 19 goals from 21 appearances.
The 19-year-old striker continues to lead the NPL Men’s NSW Golden Boot race and has been one of the standout performers of the competition, with his goals proving crucial in keeping the Wanderers’ finals hopes alive.
UNSW FC, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after seeing their three-match winning streak come to an end against league leaders APIA Leichhardt.
The Students suffered a 4-1 defeat at Lambert Park, with APIA’s attacking quality proving too much on the day.
Despite the setback, UNSW have enjoyed an impressive season and will be searching for their 10th win of the campaign as they look to remain in finals contention.
With both sides capable of playing attacking football, this promises to be an entertaining opening fixture.
Sutherland Sharks FC vs Wollongong Wolves FC
4:00pm, Saturday 1 August – Seymour Shaw
Sutherland Sharks will continue Saturday’s action when they host Wollongong Wolves at Seymour Shaw.
The Sharks enter the contest after producing one of the biggest results of Round 25, defeating Rockdale Ilinden 3-1 in a thrilling finals-style encounter.
Reigning NPL Men’s NSW Player of the Year Nicholas Olsen was the star, scoring a memorable hat-trick to inspire Sutherland’s comeback victory.
The result moved the Sharks into fourth position, three points clear of Rockdale, and placed them in a strong position as they look to secure an Australian Championship position.
Sutherland have been in excellent form, losing just once in their past five matches.
Wollongong Wolves, however, arrive searching for a turnaround after a difficult run that has seen them go without a victory since Round 16.
The Wolves remain four points outside the Top Six and know a positive result is vital if they are to keep their finals hopes alive heading into the final weeks.
With both teams fighting for different reasons, this promises to be a crucial contest.
St George FC vs SD Raiders FC
6:30pm, Saturday 1 August – Barton Park
St George FC host SD Raiders FC in a must-win contest at Barton Park on Saturday evening.
Time is running out for St George, who currently sit eight points from safety with just five matches remaining.
The Saints remain second-bottom of the ladder, one point ahead of Sydney Olympic, but picked up an important point last weekend after holding Sydney FC to a goalless draw.
They will need a strong finish to the season if they are to avoid a relegation battle going down to the final round.
Standing in their way is an SD Raiders side full of confidence following two huge victories.
After defeating St George City despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men, the Raiders produced one of the results of the season last weekend by defeating Premiership contenders Marconi Stallions through a late Robert Eremugo winner.
The newly promoted side will be looking to make it three straight victories, but they can expect a desperate St George outfit determined to fight for every point.
Sydney United 58 FC vs NWS Spirit FC
2:30pm, Sunday 2 August – Sydney United Sports Centre
Sydney United 58 will begin Sunday’s action when they host NWS Spirit at Sydney United Sports Centre.
United 58 missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the Premiership contenders last weekend, suffering a narrow defeat to St George City.
A victory would have moved them within touching distance of the top two, but they now sit four points behind Marconi Stallions in second and six points behind leaders APIA Leichhardt.
With five rounds remaining, every point is crucial as United 58 look to reignite their Premiership challenge.
They will face a Spirit side searching for a response after back-to-back defeats.
Their most recent result was a difficult 4-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers, and they will be looking to rediscover their form as they aim to finish the season strongly.
A win for either side could prove important in shaping the final weeks of the campaign.

Rockdale Ilinden FC vs Manly United FC
3:00pm, Sunday 2 August – Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre
Rockdale Ilinden and Manly United will meet in a crucial contest with major implications for the Top Six race.
The fixture could prove decisive in the battle for finals football, with both sides desperate for maximum points heading into the final stages of the season.
A victory for Manly would see them leapfrog Rockdale on the ladder, with the Northern Beaches side currently sitting seventh, just two points behind the fifth-placed Ilinden.
Manly have been one of the competition’s in-form teams in recent weeks and enter the contest unbeaten in their last seven matches.
Their latest performance was another statement of intent, with Manly producing a dominant 4-0 victory over Sydney Olympic at Cromer Park.
Benjamin Koop was the standout performer, scoring a brace, while Darcy Burgess and Aston Hulme also found the back of the net in a comprehensive win.
Rockdale, meanwhile, will be looking to respond after suffering a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Sutherland Sharks last weekend.
Despite James Temelkovski giving them the lead, the Sharks fought back through a Nicholas Olsen hat-trick to secure the three points.
With both clubs fighting for finals positions, this promises to be one of the most important fixtures of the round.
Marconi Stallions FC vs St George City
3:00pm, Sunday 2 August – Marconi Stadium
Marconi Stallions will look to return to winning ways when they host St George City FA at Marconi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Stallions enter the contest following back-to-back defeats, including last weekend’s shock loss to SD Raiders.
The result saw Marconi surrender top spot in the Premiership race, with APIA Leichhardt moving two points clear at the summit.
Having led the competition for much of the season, Marconi will be determined to respond quickly and put pressure back on APIA as the title race enters its final stages.
They will face a St George City side full of confidence after securing one of the biggest wins of their season last weekend.
A 1-0 victory over Sydney United 58 lifted Mirko Jurilj’s side eight points clear of the bottom two, placing them in a strong position to secure their NPL Men’s NSW status for 2027.
Lucas Bedleg scored the decisive goal in that victory, making an immediate impact after joining the club.
While Marconi will enter as favourites, St George City have shown they can compete with the best sides in the competition and will be looking to cause another upset.
Blacktown City FC vs Sydney FC
3:00pm, Sunday 2 August – Landen Stadium
Blacktown City will look to continue their impressive run of form when they welcome Sydney FC to Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts enter the contest having won their last three matches, with their latest victory coming against Wollongong Wolves at Macedonia Park.
Goals from Mitchell Mallia and Alou Kuol secured another important three points and continued Blacktown’s climb up the ladder.
That run has seen Blacktown move into 11th position and open up an 11-point gap over the bottom two, providing valuable breathing space heading into the final rounds.
They will now look to make it four consecutive victories against a Sydney FC side searching for a response.
The Sky Blues have gone four matches without a win and find themselves under pressure with several teams still competing for the final Top Six position.
With finals football on the line, Sydney FC know a positive result is vital as they look to maintain their place among the contenders.
Sydney Olympic FC vs APIA Leichhardt FC
7:00pm, Sunday 2 August – Belmore Sports Ground
Sydney Olympic will close out Round 26 when they host league leaders APIA Leichhardt FC in a massive Sunday night clash at Belmore Sports Ground.
The match carries huge importance for both sides, with Olympic fighting for survival while APIA look to maintain their grip on the Premiership race.
Sydney Olympic currently sit bottom of the ladder, one point behind St George FC, and know every point is crucial with only five rounds remaining. It will be a busy few days for the Blues as they will be back up from their round of 32 Hahn Australia Cup clash against the Brisbane Roar which is set to be played on Thursday.
While avoiding a bottom-two finish remains a difficult challenge, positive results during the run home could prove vital in their fight to remain in the competition through the promotion-relegation playoff.
Standing in their way is an APIA side full of confidence.
APIA moved to the top of the table last weekend after producing a comprehensive 4-1 victory over UNSW FC, with Presley Ortiz scoring a hat-trick and Rory Jordan also finding the back of the net.
The victory was APIA’s third consecutive win and placed them firmly in control of their Premiership destiny.
With the title race reaching its decisive stage, APIA will be determined to continue their momentum, while Olympic will be fighting for their season.
Round 26 promises to be another crucial weekend as the Premiership, finals and relegation battles continue to take shape.
