Magic run continues for United 58

Sydney United 58 secured a convincing 3-0 victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers at Wanderers Football Park on Saturday afternoon.
After a goalless first half, United 58 upped the ante in the second stanza with an opening goal to Mason Wells in the 43rd minute.
Carlos De Olivera secured the second of the afternoon in the 52nd minute to extend the visitors’ lead and Leroy Jennings finished the job with a third in the 78th minute.
The result gives United 58 a valuable three points to keep them well in contention for finals football, while Wanderers stay near the bottom of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s ladder.
Aidan Milicevic sent a shot towards the target in the 18th minute, but it was deflected off a Wanderers player and collected by ‘keeper Lucas Sinnot.
A free kick gave the Western Sydney a promising opportunity in the 20th minute, but Edmun Haddad’s shot soared well above the crossbar.
Patrick Antelmi came agonisingly close for the visitors in the 21st minute as his close-range effort flew just high over the crossbar.
Haddad made a forward play in the 25th minute and his shot hit the arm of Michael Glassock, earning a penalty for the hosts.
Awan Lual stepped up to the spot looking to convert the penalty, but Sydney United 58 ‘keeper Josip Orlovic managed a crucial save to deny the opportunity.
United 58 were back in action in the 28th minute, with their attacking effort earning a corner kick.
A scramble in the box saw Antelmi end up with the ball in front of goal, but his shot was blocked.
Anthony Tomelic then tried his luck from the rebounded ball but Wanderers were again able to block the visitors.
Alaat Abdul-Rahman managed to work his way around Orlovic to pull the custodian out of position and cut across to Dallo Sandy, but the pass was blocked.
Abdul-Rahman tried again to get off a shot but couldn’t manage, with a shot from Sandy being blocked yet again.
A free kick in the 36th minute for Wanderers from near the corner flag saw the hosts with a great opportunity, but Lual’s header couldn’t reach the target.
The visitors came back to the park for the second stanza with plenty of hunger and managed to score the opening goal just three minutes after the restart.
Wells sent a corner kick low into the area and De Oliveira managed to flick it over the line from inside the area in the 48th minute.
It wasn’t long before United 58 took their lead to two, this time through Wells in the 52nd minute.
Glassock passed to Wells at the edge of the 18-yard box, who drifted forward and sent a shot curling into the bottom left corner of the goal.
A corner kick gave the visitors another goal in the 78th minute through Jennings with a deflection.
Milicevic sent the corner into the area but it was headed out of contention by the Wanderers.
Jennings recovered the ball outside the 18-yard box on the right flank and sent a powerful shot towards the goal, which clipped Lachlan Tilt before reaching the goal.
Matthew Hatch pushed forward in the 85th minute to create an opportunity but he sent his shot slightly right of the target.
It’s been a big two weeks for United 58 who not only qualified for the Hahn Australia Cup Round of 32 but also the 2025 Waratah Cup Final where they will face the Northern Tigers for the first piece of silverware in 2025.
