Round 30 Preview – NPL Men’s NSW

With the Premiership and top-six now decided, the attention will turn towards an exhilarating relegation fight, with Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers facing off, and Mt Druitt Town Rangers taking on Premiers NWS Spirit FC as all look to confirm their place in the NPL Men’s NSW competition in 2026.
Football NSW will have live social media updates from Popondetta Park where the Rangers will be playing for their lives while the Premiership trophy will be officially presented to NWS Spirit FC while Pluim Park will also be the place where both A-League academies will be fighting for their spots to stay in NSW’s top tier Men’s competition.
Sydney Olympic FC vs APIA Leichhardt FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Belmore Sports Ground
APIA Leichhardt will take on Sydney Olympic FC as they look to secure second-place for the 2025 NPL Men’s NSW regular campaign.
The visitors will come into this match in strong form, with four wins from their last five matches, and will be looking to secure a statement win over Sydney Olympic.
They need just a point to make the top-two, but will be facing off against a motivated Olympic side, who lost out on the chance to make the top-six with a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Sydney United 58 last weekend.
Olympic will be looking to prove they should be up there with the best in this competition by beating second-placed APIA this weekend.
St George FC vs Manly United FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Barton Park
St George and Manly United will face off in a match for pride at Barton Park on Sunday afternoon.
The teams are placed 11th and 12th on the ladder respectively, with one point separating them, making this an exciting fixture to conclude their campaigns.
Both sides have struggled for form recently, going winless in four matches, and will be looking to finish the season on a high on Sunday afternoon.
Sydney FC vs Rockdale Ilinden FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre
Sydney FC will play Rockdale Ilinden in their final match of the 2025 NPL Men’s NSW campaign.
The Sky Blues will be looking to finish the season on a high, currently sitting 10th on the ladder with 33 points from 29 matches played.
Rockdale, meanwhile, will be aiming to finally find form ahead of their finals campaign, having not picked up a win since Round 22 in the league.
Sensationally coming into this match with five draws in a row, the ‘away side’ for this fixture will be focused on returning to their best as the league becomes a cut-through, knockout tournament.
Marconi Stallions FC vs Sutherland Sharks FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Marconi Stadium
Marconi Stallions will be aiming to do everything they can to secure second on the ladder when taking on the now safe Sutherland Sharks this weekend.
The home side for this match is two points behind APIA, and with an inferior goal-difference, they will require a defeat to their Italian rivals to even have a chance at cracking the top-two.
However, they will have to play their role on Sunday afternoon with a win over Sutherland Sharks, who will be playing with freedom after securing safety in the NPL Men’s NSW competition following a victory over Mt Druitt Town Rangers last weekend.
St George City FA vs Sydney United 58 FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Penshurst Park
St George City FA will host Sydney United 58 in a quality fixture at Penshurst Park.
St George fell out of contention for the top-six a couple of weeks ago, and will be looking to simply prove their quality in this fixture in a match for pride.
United 58, meanwhile, will come into this match with three wins in a row – the last of which was a thrilling 2-1 win over Sydney Olympic, with a Bailey Rule stunner in stoppage time helping secure their place in the finals series.
The away team will be looking to continue their strong run of form into the finals series, as they look to go all the way.
Blacktown City FC vs Wollongong Wolves FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Landen Stadium
Blacktown City will face off against Wollongong Wolves in their last regular season match of 2025.
Safe in finals, Blacktown will be looking to secure fifth on the ladder, with United 58 one point behind them in sixth.
They will be facing a Wollongong Wolves side who just fell short of the top-six, with two draws and one loss in their last three matches preventing them from making finals.
The Wolves will be fired up to secure one last win for 2025, and show their quality against a finals side, while Blacktown will be looking to make it three wins from five ahead of their elimination final.
Central Coast Mariners FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Pluim Park
In one of the biggest matches of the season, two A-League academy sides will face off to keep their place in the NPL Men’s NSW competition for 2026.
The implications for this fixture are huge – the winner will retain their spot in the league, while the loser could potentially go straight down to the League One Men’s competition, depending on Mt Druitt’s result.
It’s the Mariners who are currently clear of the bottom two, and with a +6 goal difference over Mt Druitt, a draw on the Central Coast would likely be enough to retain their position, while forcing the Wanderers into at least the bottom-two.
A win for Western Sydney, meanwhile, would push the Mariners into second-bottom, and a win for Mt Druitt would see Central Coast relegated from the competition.
This is the definition of a must-win match for both sides, and promises to deliver as a true relegation thriller on Sunday afternoon.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC vs NWS Spirit FC
3:00pm, Sunday 31 August, Popondetta Park
Last-placed Mt Druitt will take on newly-crowned NPL Men’s NSW Premiers NWS Spirit as they battle for their spot in the competition for another year.
Spirit secured a sensational Premiership with a 3-1 win over the Central Coast Mariners last weekend, with a brace from Yu Okubo and a Michael Konestabo thunderbolt securing a storied top-flight trophy after just three seasons in the competition.
And this weekend, they could inadvertently have a say in the relegation battle, as a Mt Druitt defeat or draw would see them relegated to the League One Men’s competition.
A win, however, would move Mt Druitt off the bottom, to second-last, where they will then have to fight for their place in a two-match promotion-relegation playoff with the League One Men’s side who finishes second.
It’s do-or-die for Mt Druitt at their home ground, as they aim to upset the odds and defeat Spirit for just a fifth time this campaign in search of a route to avoid relegation.
Post-match NWS Spirit FC will be awarded with the 2025 NPL Men’s NSW Premiership in what’s been a fantastic year to date for the club.
