Fresh off their 2025 Premiership triumph, NWS Spirit FC are wasting no time in turning the page as they prepare to tackle the 2026 National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW competition with renewed belief, fresh faces and new leadership at Christie Park.

At the heart of Spirit’s new chapter is the appointment of head coach Sergio Malfara, who inherits a squad blending proven NPL quality with emerging talent as the club looks to build on last season’s success and re-establish itself as a genuine contender in the state’s top tier.

A host of exciting new arrivals will don the Spirit colours in 2026, headlined by Kosta Petratos and Shoki Yoshida, while Callum Kealy, Finn Ballard McBride, Owen Henderson, Kaan Nizam, Sam Armson, Aiden Mostofi and Stavro Tserpes all arrive ready to make Christie Park home. The new additions add depth across every line of the park and provide Malfara with plenty of tactical flexibility as the season unfolds.

As is often the case after a successful campaign, Spirit have also farewelled several key contributors. Midfield general Michael Konestabo and dynamic Japanese attacker Takumi Ofuka have both departed for rival NPL Men’s NSW clubs, while Jordan Perez, Ollie Wiggin, Jamie Percevski, Frankie Ljucovic, Lincoln Gilmour and Harry Keys have also moved on.

Continuity, however, remains a cornerstone of Spirit’s identity. Long-serving club captain Grant Cornwell returns for another season providing leadership and experience at the back, while Christopher Marques, Kyah Williams, Simon Nicholas, Bradie Smith, Corey Kavanagh, Andre Takami and Zayne Ahluwalia have all re-signed, ensuring a strong core remains intact.

Spirit’s 2026 squad boasts balance across the park, from the reliability of Marques between the sticks, to a hardened defensive unit featuring Cornwell, Williams, Smith and Henderson, and a midfield engine room stacked with creativity and bite. Up front, the likes of Kealy, Nizam, Mostofi and Ballard McBride promise goals, pace and unpredictability.

If there was ever a scriptwriter involved, they could hardly have done better. NWS Spirit FC’s opening match of the 2026 season sees them host Sutherland Sharks at Christie Park on Saturday, 7 February, in a mouth-watering clash. Adding extra intrigue, former Spirit coach David Perkovic will return to the ground he once called home, now leading the Sharks alongside several players who previously wore Spirit colours.

It promises to be a blockbusting start to the campaign, one that will quickly test Spirit’s new-look squad and set the tone for what shapes as another compelling NPL Men’s NSW season. For the reigning Premiers, the challenge is clear: embrace change, honour the past, and rise again in 2026.
