Round 4 Review – NPL Men’s NSW

Round Four delivered late drama, unbeaten streaks, statement wins and heartbreak across the competition. From stoppage-time daggers to defensive masterclasses, here’s how the action unfolded in another gripping weekend of NPL Men’s NSW football.
Sydney FC 1 v Marconi Stallions FC 0 @ Ilinden Sports Centre
Sydney FC edged a tense battle with a clinical sixth-minute finish from Wataru Kamijo proving the difference.
Marconi dominated large stretches of the second half and rattled the woodwork through Teng Kuol, throwing everything forward in search of an equaliser. But the Sky Blues showed maturity beyond their years, absorbing relentless pressure in a fiery, card-heavy contest to grind out a hard-fought three points.
Sydney United 58 FC 2 v Manly United FC 0 @ Sydney United Sports Centre
Sydney United 58 kept their perfect start intact, while Manly United’s unbeaten run came crashing to a halt on Friday night.
Tomoki Wada struck early in the seventh minute to set the tone before Mason Wells doubled the advantage in the 33rd. From there, the hosts controlled proceedings with authority, underlining their credentials as early-season contenders.
SD Raiders FC 1 v Rockdale Ilinden FC 2 @ Ernie Smith Reserve
Rockdale Ilinden made it back-to-back wins in a tense and fiery encounter.
Ollie Wiggin opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Moudi Najjar struck just before halftime to hand the visitors a commanding 2–0 lead. The Raiders launched wave after wave of late attacks and were rewarded with a 94th-minute rocket from substitute Jakub Malbasa — but it proved too little, too late as Ilinden held firm in a nervy finish.
Sydney Olympic FC 1 v NWS Spirit FC 2 @ Belmore Sports Ground
Sydney Olympic were left to rue missed chances as NWS Spirit staged one of the comebacks of the round.
After Yujo Fujita handed Olympic the early advantage, the hosts failed to capitalise on further opportunities. Inspired by the electric Shoki Yoshida, Spirit flipped the contest in a devastating 14-minute second-half burst to steal all three points and silence Belmore.
St George FC 2 v UNSW FC 0 @ Barton Park
St George FC continued their rock-solid start to the season, weathering a fierce and physical challenge to secure a fourth straight clean sheet.
A breakthrough in the 33rd minute cracked the contest open before an unfortunate Lachlan Campbell own goal five minutes later sealed the result. The Saints remain defensively unbreakable and are quietly building serious momentum.
APIA Leichhardt FC 2 v Wollongong Wolves FC 0 @ Lambert Park
APIA Leichhardt lit up Lambert Park with a powerful first-half display to claim their second win of the campaign.
Presley Ortiz and Jordan Segreto struck in a blistering late first-half surge that ultimately decided the contest. The second half became a tactical grind, but APIA’s early dominance ensured they walked away with a statement victory against quality opposition.
St George City FA 1 v Western Sydney Wanderers FC Youth 0 @ Penshurst Park
St George City finally broke through for their first win of the 2026 campaign in a tight, disciplined display.
Yohn Pedersen’s composed penalty on the stroke of halftime proved decisive, with the hosts defending resolutely after the break to secure a valuable three points and kickstart their season.
Blacktown City FC 2 v Sutherland Sharks 3 @ Landen Stadium
Drama of the highest order closed out the round.
Sutherland Sharks came from behind twice — including a stunning late surge against nine-man Blacktown — to snatch a 3–2 victory. Nicholas Olsen held his nerve in the 97th minute, converting a decisive penalty to hand the Sharks their first win of the season in unforgettable fashion.
Round Four had everything: unbeaten streaks extended, first wins secured, clean sheets preserved and late chaos rewriting scripts. If this weekend is anything to go by, the 2026 season is only just heating up.
