Jesic the Difference as Marconi Make It Three Straight in Gritty Win

Marconi Stallions have surged to their third consecutive NPL Men’s NSW victory, edging past Western Sydney Wanderers 1–0 in a fiercely contested Round Eight showdown at Wanderers Football Park.
The decisive moment came courtesy of the ever-reliable Marko Jesic, who capitalised on a rare mistake from Western Sydney goalkeeper Tristan Vidackovic in the 18th minute to separate the two sides.
The Wanderers nearly exploded out of the blocks within seconds of kick-off, as slick ball movement from Awan Lual carved open space for Harper Ryles. However, his shot drifted agonisingly wide of the far post, letting Marconi off the hook early.
From that moment on, the Stallions seized control and imposed themselves on the contest. Between the 3rd and 7th minutes, Western Sydney were forced into desperate defensive action, scrambling to clear multiple threatening chances created by Rocco Macnamara, Nathan Barrie, and Lachlan Sattout.
Marconi’s pressure continued to build, and in the 16th minute a sharp passage of play between Tyren Burnie and Luca Pecora set up Jesic for a header that narrowly missed the target—a warning sign of what was to come.
Just two minutes later, the captain made no mistake.
A costly lapse in judgement from Vidackovic saw his pass fall straight to Cameron Windust, who instantly threaded a perfectly weighted through ball into Jesic’s path. With composure and class, Jesic made the finish look effortless, calmly slotting home what would ultimately be the match-winner.
Marconi continued to threaten before the break. Jesic came close to doubling his tally in the 31st minute but couldn’t generate enough power on his header from close range, while in the 42nd minute Barrie’s dangerous delivery ricocheted off Macnamara and spun out of play.
The second half began in chaotic fashion, with Vidackovic’s heavy touch gifting possession to the visitors. Matej Busek had a golden opportunity but failed to convert, though the goalkeeper quickly redeemed himself by producing a strong punch to deny Busek moments later.
At the other end, Western Sydney showed glimpses of life. In the 56th minute, Lual burst through on goal from a tight angle and looked poised to equalise, only for Windust to produce a stunning last-ditch sliding tackle to preserve Marconi’s lead.
Tempers flared just after the hour mark, with Noah Ovens shown a yellow card in the 60th minute for bringing down Jack Armson and halting a dangerous attacking run.
Marconi refused to sit back and continued to press forward relentlessly. They came within inches of extending their lead when a thunderous effort rattled the crossbar, before Vidackovic produced a spectacular one-handed save in the 69th minute to deny Quinten Blair’s powerful strike.
Late in the match, substitute Georgio Hassarati nearly sparked a dramatic moment in the 78th minute, racing onto a loose ball and almost beating Joel Wade in a tense footrace.
In the end, Jesic’s clinical finish proved the difference, as Marconi’s winning streak continues to gather momentum—showcasing both resilience and attacking intent as they push forward in the competition.
Reflecting on the performance after the match, Windust highlighted both the team’s determination and his own long-awaited return to full match fitness.
“On a team level, we just wanted to get the win,” he said.
“For me personally, it was my first 90 minutes in ten months after returning from injury.
“For the assist to Jesic, I focused on making the interception, then lifted my head and saw the run. I played it through, and thankfully he finished it.
“This win means a lot. We’ve dropped points we shouldn’t have earlier in the season, so now it’s about building momentum and continuing to improve.”
