Two Giants. One Trophy. The NPL Men’s NSW Grand Final Awaits

The biggest match of the 2026 NPL Men’s NSW season is finally upon us.

After 30 rounds, countless twists and turns, a Premiership race that went down to the wire and a dramatic Championship Series, it all comes down to one afternoon at St George Venues Jubilee Stadium.

Two of the biggest clubs in NSW football will go head-to-head, with APIA Leichhardt and Sydney United 58 battling for the ultimate prize — the 2026 NPL Men’s NSW Championship.

Both sides have enjoyed stellar seasons and have been at the forefront of almost every major silverware discussion across 2026.

Now, only one can finish the year as Champions.

There is plenty of history between these two clubs, but this year’s rivalry has already produced some memorable chapters.

The first major meeting came in the Waratah Cup Final, where Sydney United 58 emerged victorious.

A brace from Mason Wells and a goal from Farah Koko saw United 58 defeat APIA and claim the first piece of silverware of 2026.

APIA would get their revenge later in the league campaign, defeating United 58 in their first regular-season meeting courtesy of goals from Jack Stewart and Oscar Gonzalez.

When the two sides met again later in the year, the spoils were shared.

APIA needed just a point to secure the Premiership and achieved their objective, securing top spot on the 2026 NPL Men’s NSW ladder ahead of United 58.

There has been remarkably little between these two giants throughout the year.

One win apiece, supplemented by a draw.

They have also split the major trophies already.

United 58 have the Waratah Cup.

APIA have the Premiership.

Now, there is only one trophy left.

Sunday’s Grand Final will ultimately decide who finishes 2026 as the most successful club in NSW.

APIA’s Premiership-winning campaign was built on remarkable consistency.

The Marronazzuri won 21 of their 30 regular-season matches, losing just four times.

They were also the competition’s most prolific attacking side, scoring an astonishing 66 goals at an average of 2.2 per game.

That attacking quality continued into the Championship Series.

After entering the Preliminary Final against NWS Spirit, APIA produced another commanding performance to secure their place in the decider.

Jack Stewart opened the scoring from the penalty spot early in the second half before Presley Ortiz doubled the advantage with a superb individual goal.

Levi Sciuriaga then came off the bench to tap home late and seal a 3-0 victory, sending APIA into their second consecutive Grand Final.

Now, the Premiers have the opportunity to complete the job.

At the heart of their attack will be Presley Ortiz, the Golden Boot winner and one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition.

Ortiz has found the net 22 times across all competitions this season and has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to produce something special when given an opportunity.

He will be supported by the creativity of Jack Stewart, whose ability to unlock defences and create chances has been a defining feature of APIA’s season.

Edward Caspers will also be expected to play a major role.

The midfielder has been one of the most consistent performers for the Premiers throughout the campaign and could prove vital in the battle for control of the middle of the park.

Standing in their way is a Sydney United 58 side that has built its season on a different kind of dominance.

United 58 finished second, four points behind APIA, but were comfortably the competition’s best defensive side.

They conceded just 20 goals across the regular season — an average of only 0.67 per match.

That defensive strength has provided the foundation for a side that has continued to compete at the business end of every competition.

United 58 entered their Preliminary Final against Manly United having earned a direct path to the contest and produced a composed performance to book their Grand Final place.

Julian Cop opened the scoring early before Manly hit back later in the first half.

United 58 responded almost immediately, however, with Mason Wells producing a stunning goal directly from a corner kick to restore the lead.

Then, deep into stoppage time, Wells turned provider, finding 18-year-old Tomislav Ozanic in the box, with the youngster making no mistake to seal a 3-1 victory.

For United 58, Wells will be one of the major players to watch on Sunday.

The electric winger has scored 10 goals in 2026 and has continually impressed with his pace, creativity and ability to use both feet.

His set-piece threat also adds another dimension to the United attack.

In midfield, Dylan Rose will be crucial as United 58 look to win the battle in the centre of the park, while goalkeeper Adam Pavlesic will be aiming to add another clean sheet to what has been an outstanding season for the 24-year-old.

The contrast between these two sides makes Sunday’s decider even more intriguing.

APIA have the firepower.

United 58 have the defensive record.

APIA have the Premiership.

United 58 have the Waratah Cup.

APIA are chasing history.

United 58 are chasing their own return to the summit.

For APIA, victory would deliver back-to-back NPL Men’s NSW Championships, having defeated Rockdale Ilinden 2-1 in last year’s Grand Final.

It would also complete a significant Premiership-Championship double and cap an outstanding 2026 campaign.

For United 58, meanwhile, the opportunity is equally significant.

They are chasing their first NPL Men’s NSW Championship since 2020 and would add the league title to the 2025 and 2026 Waratah Cup trophies.

The club has already demonstrated its ability to perform when the pressure is at its highest.

Now, they have one final hurdle.

Across the past year, meetings between these two clubs have delivered goals, drama, controversy and unforgettable moments.

Sunday promises to be no different.

The season has brought us here.

The trophies have brought us here.

The history has brought us here.

Now, APIA Leichhardt and Sydney United 58 meet on the biggest stage of them all.
