Sydney Olympic 6 v Sydney United 58 0 at Belmore Sports Ground – Full Match Report and Highlights
It may have taken three rounds, but Sydney Olympic FC have finally got its 2024 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season off the ground with a devastating display defeating staunch rivals Sydney United 58 6-0 in a convincing display in front of their home fans at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday.
Two goals in the first half from Teng Kuol and Roy O’Donovan were followed up by four in the second via Abraham Majok, Oliver Puflett, Jaden Casella and second by Kuol as the home side impressed but in reality, the gap between both sides was not as big as the scoreline indicated.
Marconi 2 v NWS Spirit FC 1 at Marconi Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights
An injury time penalty from star boy James Temelkovski has guided the Marconi Stallions to a gutsy 2-1 win over NWS Spirit at Marconi Stadium on Saturday night.
Coming into the game down on men and without a win in the 2024 season, the visitors were eager to get off to a positive start and did so as the game got going in the first half.
After falling behind in the backstages of the first half, it was Marconi who surprisingly opened the scoring after Domenic Costanzo went direct from a corner and found the back of the net.
Spirit answered back in the 65th minute after a goalkeeping error put the ball on a platter for Jesse Michel, who powered his chance into the roof of the net from close range.
With both sides running out of time, it was the hosts who came out on top after Temelkovski neatly converted from the penalty spot to give his side all three points.
Blacktown City 3 v Sutherland Sharks 2 at Landen Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights
Three first-half goals helped Blacktown City past Sutherland Sharks in a thrilling 3-2 win at Landen Stadium on Saturday night but were made to work for it after being reduced to ten men in the second stanza, held on despite a late visitors fight back.
Joey Gibbs opened the scoring 21 minutes in before Jak O’Brien and Travis Major added to the halftime score.
Mario Shabow’s red card for City just after the hour mark gave Sutherland a chance of a comeback.
The Sharks could not get there though, as goals to Liam Rippon and James Cakovski proved mere consolations for the visitors.
St George FC 2 v Sydney FC 1 at Ilinden Sports Centre – Full Match Report and Highlights
St George FC registered its first official victory of the 2024 National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW campaign with a 2-1 win over Sydney FC who suffered its first loss of the year at the Ilinden Sports Centre on Saturday.
The crowd was given two first half goals, firstly through seasoned campaigner and skipper Troy Danaskos, the home sides first of the season, followed by a scrambled effort forced home via Nicholas Kalogerou with Marin France netting a late consolation for the Blues.
Danaskos remained cool headed when firing across ‘keeper Alex Zaverdinos and in at the right post followed by a goalmouth melee that finally had Kalogerou awarded the strike when the ball was deemed to have crossed the line.
Marin France pulled back a consolation goal for Sydney FC late on but it proved too little too late on the night.
Wollongong Wolves 1 v St George City 1 at Albert Butler Memorial Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
Wollongong Wolves shared the points with St George City in a 1-1 draw at a hot Albert Butler Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon.
The heat proved a challenging obstacle for both teams as they battled with the sun for most of the game.
It took until the 83rd minute for the first goal of the match when Paolo Mitry fired home inside three minutes of coming on.
It looked like the points were heading back to St George City before Banri Kanaizumi nodded in a stoppage time equaliser for the hosts.
Western Sydney Wanderers 2 v Rockdale Ilinden 3 at Wanderers Football Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
Western Sydney Wanderers suffered their first defeat of season at the hands of one of the league’s heavyweights Rockdale Ilinden in a 3-2 thriller at Wanderers Football Park on Sunday.
Ilinden started the game very positively, finding themselves 2-0 up inside half an hour, thanks to goals from Olayinka Sunmola and former Wanderer Dean Pelekanos.
Wanderers responded in the 42nd minute through Zac Sapsford, but the show belonged once more to Alec Urosevski, who scored a long-ranged stunner in stoppage time of the first half to give the visitors their third goal.
It was too little too late when Nathanael Blair found the back of the net for Wanderers in the dying embers of the game, and Rockdale Ilinden earned themselves an important three points, keeping them unbeaten this season.
APIA 4 v Manly United 0 at Leichhardt Oval – Full Match Report and Highlights
APIA Leichhardt have defeated Manly United 4-0 in a strong, cohesive performance at Leichhardt Oval.
Edward Caspers opened the scoring for the reigning Champions in the 22nd minute with a piercing one-two with Ben Gibson after a beautiful run through midfield, before APIA doubled their lead in the 37th minute with a Jack Stewart penalty after another assertive Caspers run from deep.
In the 42nd minute, APIA added a third with Jack Armson tapping home a low cross from Jack Stewart, before making it four early into the second half with another tap-in – this time from Jordan Segreto via a good Ben Gibson run and pass.
APIA saw out the game well, limiting Manly United’s chances while remaining dangerous on transition, and continue to impress following their round one defeat to Blacktown City.
Central Coast Mariners 5 v Hills United 3 at Central Coast Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights
The Central Coast Mariners celebrated its first victory in 2024 thanks to a thrilling 5-3 victory over Hills United FC in an early Sunday afternoon kick-off at Pluim Park.
Anthony Frangie got the party started for the visitors with an early goal before Bailey Brandtman replied in the 31st minute.
Caleb Jackson-Brown got Hills back in front just before the break as the newly promoted outfit went into the break with the lead.
That lead was short-lived as Matej Busek scored to make it 2-2 before the hosts hit the turbo button as Luka Smyth and Taye Hedley bagged two in the space of five minutes.
Yu Okuno continued his goal scoring run scoring a late consolation but Smyth rubbed more salt in the wounds of the new boys as he scored his second of the match which rounded a 5-3 win for Lucas Vilela’s young troops.
