St George FC 2 v Sydney Olympic 1 at Barton Park – Full Match Report and Highlights

It was a celebration on all fronts as St George Saints defeated former NSL rivals Sydney Olympic 2-1 at the wonderfully refurbished Barton Park facility on a soggy Saturday evening.

The venue and the teams were a blast from the past in what was a grand opening day for Football NSW, Bayside Council and St George FC. Barton Park celebrated in style with festivities as it hosted its first ever game since the once historic St George Stadium was demolished. And amongst the festivities there was a great game of football that ended with St George FC defeating Olympic by 2-1 after the visitors took the lead towards the end of the first half through Michael Vakis before St George struck back in the second half with a Peter Grozos penalty and a late Evangelo Souris winner.

The game’s momentum changed when the visitors’ top goal scorer Yu Okubo got sent off for a second yellow with the game goalless.

The Stallions made the extra man count not long after when James Temelkovski volleyed it in from close range just before half time.

The home side ran riot in the second half, with goals from Domenic Costanzo, Marko Jesic and Hiroshima Aoyama sealing an emphatic victory for the Stallions.

Blacktown City 3 v NWS Spirit FC 1 at Landen Stadium – Full Match Report and Highlights

Blacktown City continued to flex their trophy winning aspirations as they put NWS Spirit FC to the sword 3-1 at Landen Stadium in Round 13 of the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW competition. The two sides went toe-to-toe early on before an 18th minute explosion from Jak O’Brien saw him score a candidate for goal of the season, as he unleashed a long-range wonder strike from outside of the box.

However, NWS Spirit would soon have their say on the 39th minute mark as Jacob Chidiac fired away from just inside the box to open the scoring for the visitors.

And despite the Spirit’s best efforts the convincing triumph was rounded up through Tyren Burnie with a stunning and looping effort on the edge of half-time.

Mitchell Mallia then got on the scoring act in the 49th minute, after he converted via Danny Choi’s exquisitely placed pass and the game looked done and dusted for the hosts.

The second half saw both teams with some solid chances, however it was ultimately Blacktown City FC at the end of it all who walked away convincing winners.

A quickfire double from Sydney United 58’s top goal scorer Patrick Antelmi was enough to lead his side to a 3-2 victory over the league-leading Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday Afternoon at the Sydney United Sports Centre.

Antelmi’s brace gave the hosts a two-gaol buffer heading into the break, shortly before Stephen De Robillard extended it to three.

Another brace from Adam Bugarija gave the Wanderers a glimmer of hope at the end but it was too little too late as the valiant United 58 defence held on for the win as the Wanderers loss has seen several teams challenging for the Premiership now.
